The most original video ever. If I wasn't convinced Olly is a straight male chasing clout I'd think he has a huge hate boner for Peterson. The guy went through a comma and no one takes him seriously. It's enough Olly. You saved the world already.
I was thinking on how Olly and Contra deal with their contradictions and the sad lie of a life they have procured for themselves. I see it now: they believe themselves to be esthetes; living for pleasure and beauty, beyond good and evil because of their art. They both think of themselves as the Nabokovs of youtube. Of course; Olly and Nick create nothing but garbage. But I think they truly believe their non existent aesthetic merits justify all this sham, and even their own suffereing. Olly himself cited Nabokov as his favorite Russian writer, contrasting with Peterson's Dostoyevski.
I don't think people were this delusional before the internet. It was a mistake, that's for sure.

I watched the new video but it’s so disjointed I really have nothing to say about it. My mind wandered the whole time, even though it’s relatively short. Contra’s videos usually hold my attention.
I really find the success of this guy so baffling. He’s awkward, hammy, pretentious, the list goes on. I wasn’t a viewer before so I don’t know these “characters” but I can’t imagine why his audience cares about “The Arsonist” et al.
In the positive column I’ll say that Olly seems to have decent-ish taste in music, though of course the Blackstar thing was so cringe and gay.
Also eye roll forever at 2:20 where Olly makes a joke about both Olly and Peterson going through a “nightmare odyssey through the medical system,” and being “catapulted in to the limelight as a public figure.” Olly winky winks then says, “Neither of those are easy things to do, believe me.” Tee hee hee because Olly is a “public figure” - lol yeah okay sure. In his delusional dreams. And since he’s decided to tee hee hee his way through whether or not he’s medically transitioned, he may not have even interfaced with “trans medicine”(or whatever the fuck) one iota anyway.
At 5:20 there’s an extended motif about his experience trying to pass. Which is funny because I thought we weren’t doing trans content... tHiS iS pHiLoSoPY tUbe!!!
I also feel like the “arsonist’s sister” character or whatever she is will probably be a repository for Olly’s anti-woman feelings.
There’s a repeated motif where quotes from a given difficult philosophical text are run together and overdubbed till you can’t hear what’s being said. The subtext is that Olly boy is going to distill it for you but I think it’s pretty obvious it’s done so that he can evoke these titan philosophers without actually grappling or understanding their ideas with any depth whatsoever.

Though a counter I'd have for that is he could teach people on how to dress like that on a budget with shopping more vintage clothes and save for high quality clothes because better quality clothes last longer, can look near timeless and pending on the material are much better on the environment and not contributing to the waste and exploitation that happens with fast fashion.
