I barely fucking use a controller. I will only use it if it's a 2D game or a 3D whatever platformer or like Devil May Cry kind of experience. I prefer the mouse and keyboard. It's fine for everything except the kind of games I mentioned. I've gone through now the 2nd Xbox controller. They were box Xbox One controllers bought off Amazon (hopefully legit) and both fucking times the left analog stick has drift. I barely, barely, barely, barely use these controllers. It's a once in a blue moon situation when I do use a controller and this is the 2nd fucking one with this fucking problem.

I could understand if this was years later.

I could understand if I constantly used the damn thing like a true NEET piece of shit.

But this is literally 3-4 months later and the fucking stick has drift.

WTF happened?

My old NES, SNES and Genesis controllers still work fine and I played the shit out of them back in the day. WTF happened with the quality control of controllers? Planned obsolescence?

Fuck you Bill Gates.

Fuck you Bill Gates you fucking nigger.
My switch got drift 3 weeks after using it.

My n64 doesn't have drift and that's my oldest surviving console (grew up with snes but i digress)
We really are declining in terms of quality controllers

I'm glad the hilarious legacy of the original shitty Xbox controller lives on into the modern day.

For the uninitiated, the original Xbox shipped with a very large controller that is so fragile and poorly designed that you are actually straight up lucky if you will even see one for sale in a shop somewhere that's still working. They're basically all extinct except in the hands of collectors capable of electronics repair, much like the Atari 5200 controller.

The controller most people think of as the "original" Xbox controller is actually the second model. This model by all rights is pretty durable, but it has a critical vulnerability in the place where the cord runs into the controller body. If that wire gets too bent out of shape, like say, if you're one of those people who wraps the cord around the controller for storage, or one of those worse people who leaves the cord loose and lets it get tangled up, the wire is slowly pulled out of its socket. Which bricks your controller.

3rd party Xbox controllers of the era, like the excellent Gameshark ones, almost always have an extended or reinforced sheath of plastic or hard rubber around where the cord runs into the body. Hilariously, now that companies are manufacturing controllers for retro consoles, I've seen brand new Current Year 3rd party controllers with the exact same cord vulnerability as the originals! The ride never ends!

I've never met an xbox controller that didn't run into some sort of issue sooner rather than later. Maybe one day they'll be treated as importantly as the console architecture they come bundled with so we don't keep running into mass-produced junk issues, but I doubt that. For the record I think the 360 controller is the best ever made but it's not without its faults.

Why the fuck are all the controllers bluetooth? I LOVE input delay. I especially love how 8bitdo made a wired controller only for the wire to be so laughably short it's barely the size of two phones lengthwise.

Only logitech has done it right and their sticks are so hard to reach it makes my hand cramp up. Their d-pad is awesome though.

I hated the Dpads on my old Logitechs, so if they've improved those, good.

You can use something like Durazno or a similar Xinput wrapper to set a custom deadzone setting that will prevent drift. I like Durazno because it can be configured per game and doesn't require any special software running in the background.

And fuck you my DS4 has Drift too
unscrew it and pop thee analog sticks off, most drift is either caused by dust or plastic mold flash.

I had a tiny piece of excess plastic in mine that fucked up one of my sticks on occasion.

That being said I miss good third party options

Mostly because I like weird shapes and pretty colors and especially above all Clear Colored Plastics.
