So officers should carry personal liability insurance and if they have so many screw ups they can no longer be insured and lose the ability to become officers?

Concealed carry insurance is a thing. US Law Shield, USCCA, NRA Carry Guard, and maybe some others.

When libshits heard about those existing, they wailed and gnashed their teeth, calling it "murder insurance".

The absolute irony that their tactic for protesting against the alleged moral bankruptcy of authorities is to bank on the idea that they have the morality capacity to not harm the children they brought along, which already proves the protestors' depravity in the first place.
