If it wasn't for the intended audience that keeps buying these games I'd be mad at this practice. But they keep buying the yearly release which are pretty much exactly the same, except it's the current year.

There are some dumbasses or liars/in denials who tell that they want to stop buying these games but can't since 2k/EA (which are indeed despicable in their own right) are the only ones who have a hold over these games on the market, not knowing that there are other games to try and play out there. I had a brief conversation about it with a friend who was studying psychology, she said it was a coping mechanism for insecure men with bad self esteem, they want to hide their face as much as possible out of shame, the beard and thick glasses work as a sort mask to subconsciously hide behind, same with fedoras and eccentric trench coat combos, they'd prefer something thats external that draws attention as a form of faux armor because they feel it deflects from the ugliness they feel on the inside. they'd feel more exposed without it. I feel like is a very broad generalization given how common and natural facial hair is in men and how some dudes really do need thick frames for their shitty eyesight but i suppose there is a point to it too.

I think this is much more thought than anyone who dresses this way puts into their appearance. They just do it because the other people around them do it. It says more about people like us that we come up with these complicated explanations for very simple and predictable behaviors.

Digimon fans are awful with the consoomerism too. Fans will happily spend hundreds of dollars on vpets they will never play or take out of the box. When it was discovered Target was selling them for 5$ each people went there to buy most of them up and proudly show off their collection. And don’t get me started on the embarassingly large amount of fans who show off their tattoos of Omegamon or the crests from the first season. If you spot a consoomer in the Digimon fanbase 99% of the time it’s a fan of the first Digimon Adventures who grew up with it and consooms merchandise out of childhood nostalgia. It also doesn’t help that Digimon has been milking the shit out of Adventure since 2015 with movies aimed at adults who grew up with it and pumping out merchandise for them too.
