WarnerMedia is reviving the iconic Hanna-Barbera animation brand as it renames Cartoon Network Studios Europe.

The London-based studio will become Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, inheriting a name that is synonymous with iconic titles including Scooby-Doo, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and Yogi Bear.

The studio is currently in development on The Amazing World of Gumball Movie (working title), the upcoming feature-length TV movie based on Cartoon Network series The Amazing World of Gumball.

Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe’s other shows include The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe and Elliott from Earth. The unit will be led by Sam Register, president of Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, and Vanessa Brookman, head of kids EMEA.

“There are few names in the animation industry that elicit such reverence and joy as Hanna-Barbera,” said Register. Brookman added: “It is an enormous privilege to be expanding our EMEA studio in the name of one of the most prestigious and beloved brands in animation history.”

The rebranding was announced by Tom Ascheim, president, Warner Bros. global kids, young adults, and classics.

Not sure how to feel about this but at least it keeps the H-B name alive I guess. I see they went with the 70's logo too.

Technically it's not a revival, because WB's been using the Hanna-Barbera brand for their Scooby-Doo films... but all that was basically in name only. Hanna-Barbera became CN Studios after Bill Hanna died.

I assume CN Studios America will stay the same.

I'm guessing because the Cartoon Network brand has been so damaged in recent years with their mishandling of the network, that it's easier for W-B to just bring back a beloved, nostalgic brand than to try and repair the damage. Also, I'm wondering what with TV networks moving over to streaming, that the Cartoon Network itself is not long for this world?

Speaking of CN damaging their brand, here’s something not related but also kind of related.
Filming for the new PPG CW show has commenced and there’s a first look at the show; shit looks like a costume party. Also they got the actor who played Turk from Scrubs to play Professor Utonium.
There's already a thread on this: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/powerpuff-girls-live-action-series-in-development-at-cw.75346/

Admittedly the new logo for this is inferior when you compare it to the old one. But I think this is a good thing - a very good thing.

When practically every company is rebooting everything, it's absolutely refreshing to see a company make a long-term investment into something new. It may be an old idea, but it worked, and it worked well back in the day - out of the What-a-Cartoon program came five shows that were beloved hits (seven if you count the Big Pick shorts). Maybe we'll get something out of this that'll be to the kids of today what those were to us.
