Uh, no? Gay marriage became legal in the 2000s, name another time that was ever true. "More than a generation" would include the cold war and the collapse of the USSR, so we've largely had an expanse of freedoms on the whole since then.
The only place where you see explicit support of Fascism is in rebellious Italian teenagers who worship Benito Mussolini, but they've existed since he died.
The only country that could be considered fascist (ironically) is China as they bend all the companies who deal with them to their will, blurring the line between state and corporation. They also control the flow of all information going in and out of China, as in 'nothing in or out.' As Mussolini put it, "Everything in the state, for the state and nothing outside the state."
