Maybe it's because I discovered her after her Nostalgia Chick days. I find her analysis smug and at times laughably self-indulgent. When she's not getting drunk on Merlot she's high on her own farts. I'm just not sure of what kind of insightful, even-handed analysis are you going to get on ANYTHING from an unabashedly woke woman who calls her family uneducated white trash and felt so proud of aborting her kid she made a short movie over it.

I was first exposed to Lindsay from her Hobbit videos, and I was quickly put off when the third and final video was comprised entirely of short-sighted union-shilling. I gather that part of the reason why New Zealand even has a prominent film industry to speak of is precisely because the lack of unions makes the location desirable to foreign film companies looking to escape the costs and restrictions enforced by their domestic unions and corresponding labor laws. For example, Power Rangers moved production from California to New Zealand twenty years ago and has been there ever since.

This most recent time, however, she reminded me of something else, too.
Once upon a time I was told that the phrase "white trash" is itself racist. No, not against white people, but because it "implies that you need to specify that this type of person is white, and that other races are 'trash' by default."

Lindsay kept calling Jenny NIcholson, who makes popular videos on a variety of things and isn't dumb enough to let her political opinions spill into her content, an 'MLP youtuber', which is an underniably loaded term. Why would she talk about her friend in such a patroniging way, reducing her body of work to something that no one would take seriously? Could it be that she's... jealous?

kenny lauderdale is a terrific obscure anime YTuber. Even when he's covering stuff I don't give two flips about, he makes it pretty engrossing. And his livestreams have consistently grown by significant numbers. I'm just waiting for the day when he review To-y (hint hint).
