Exactly. Most girls will be told to eat more red meat and to take supplements. You need a pretty drastically low level to get infusions, and you need to be extremely depleted to need blood transfusions.
My PCP told me that trying to fix very low iron levels (to the point where you needed infusions) you absolutely can't fix it with long-term supplements because it's like trying to plug a basketball-sized hole with a baseball. You need infusions if it's bad and transfusions if it's severe. It just can't be done with pills, so if there's a diagnosis of low iron at all and she was told to take supplements it was definitely a mild case.
The haemoglobin was apparently in the 90s, so definitely not "profound anaemia".
