If you mean by “splinter communities” you mean cults and cult compounds, sure. The FLDS is notorious around here for their stuff. The main reason I point to the feds is because they regularly target rural militias, regardless of the context- cults, extremist groups, people who hate taxes, whatever. Most start after a phone tip that should be handled by local police, or because there's a presence of armed forces requiring a full address, i.e. a federal siege.
The Tranch's posturing and gun photos are dangerous for them in that sense; it's ironically way safer to do shit like that in a population center because the cops know where you live and don't have to "approach," they just snag you while you're on the way home. If you look at the Tranch's photos, you can see the miles and miles of open turf- no cop wants to drive at a (potentially) hostile location through that, but FBI snipers sure enjoy the clean shooting.
I'm just not sure if "sexpest pedophile" would be enough to get the FBI over the TRANS RIGHTS hurdle, even if the Tranch got actual children on site. My gut says no.
