In this video Communist Caleb Maupin is talking about his upcoming BreadTube book again ("There's never been a book published with BreadTube in the title"), and he goes into the concept of BreadTubers "deradicalizing" the hapless public. Maupin claims that BreadTube is a form of "Hikikomori politics: with people not leaving their rooms and imagining they are part of a movement by watching videos: "A politics based on never going outside. This is what 'being political' looks like to our generation and it's tragic."


Here is the full Livestream, the part where Maupin talks about ContraPoints and Hbomber videos promoting the idea that capitalism is good were it not for all the fascists that have infiltrated the US government that need to be identified through handsigns and Pepe memes and rooted out: "It's weird and it almost mimicks McCarthyism. It's like the DaVinchi code. It's a conspiracy theory, it's basically the leftwing version of QAnon."


What Chapo Trap House and BreadTube do is they commodify an identity. You watch BreadTube, you listen to Chapo Trap House, and you can wake up in the morning and feel like: "You know what I am? I am a socialist, and I put on socialist clothes and I wear socialist shoes, and I am a socialist.", and you can walk around all day, "I am a good socialist with all these socialist products.". Nothing changes. You're not building an organization. You're not really doing much. But they can make money off of it. And you get to feel like this is who you are. You've got an identity. And that's really what's going on there. It's a commodified identity. Not much changes. Whereas, if you want things to really change, you're gonna have to talk sensibly. (...) It needs to stop being a scene. Maupin claims that there is a precedent for BreadTube in the cult-scare of the 1970s - only that wasn't just a scare, people actually lost their fucking minds on drugs and went and joined cults. SJW TRA is based on delusions of grandeur and "magical change" - like much of Caleb Communism is too, BTW - so it attracts these wouldbe cult-leader types as well as people who can't think for themselves and want a cult to tell them what to think and how to live. I vehemently disagree with Maupin. He underestimates the effect that the SJW TRA cult has on real people's lives. People actually break up with all their friends and family to join the SJW TRA cult. Nyk himself posted a tweet about how he lost 5 friends IRL when he trooned out back in 2017. It might be mostly online, but most contemporary cults are so-called cybercults, and for many young people today the SJW TRA milieu is just like joining an IRL cult in the 1970s.

That said, I hope Maupin reading all the threads on this forum because no one else has gathered more receipts about BreadTube than KF has. I still want BreadTube escapee Kelly Zahos to doxx those e-mails where her BreadTuber friend (who I suspect is Ballkicker) was offered money by an NGO to put "public health messages" in his videos. Understanding ContraPoints as just an entertainer is ludicrous, when ContraPoints is on Livestreams with AOC, outsourcing government responsibilities onto its citizens by demanding donations for organizations like Mermaids who champion usurping parental rights to give underage children puberty blockers. AOC has the most powerful social media platform of any politician in the country, aside from now Biden, and you could arguably say the world.

Xan and Hunter weren't even Alt Right even. Most people hold the general political positions they hold for the rest of their lives largely. Extremists especially are more dedicated to their ideas and despite the meme of "they just shift from ideology to ideology". That just isn't the case from my experience. Sure you can find retarded 14 year olds on twitter who change ideologies every day but like in real life. It's just not the case. Like your average nazi is probably going to be that way until he dies. Same with your average communist. They came to those conclusions for a reason and generally they're not going to change their mind because someone on YouTube told them "You're wrong!". Like Vaush and Contrapoints love to pat themselves on the ass for being "deradicalizers" but in reality all they do is just appeal to those past center-left mostly.

about the spanish civil war: the left side in that conflict contained a bunch of different ideologies. there were center-left republicans who wanted to keep the spanish republic going, there were soviet backed communists, there was a significant pure anarchist faction, and there were regional separatist factions as well. due in part to the strong foreign (soviet) influence on the communists, as well as ideological differences, these factions strongly mistrusted each other.

the right on the other hand mostly weren't super strict on ideology. there was the falange (basically spanish fascists) but they didn't really push for ideological purity a lot and were basically eaten up and assimilated by the vague general authoritarian conservatism that all the different factions on the right had in common. there were militarists, monarchists, carlists (basically monarchist supporters of a different royal family), catholic clerics, proto-fascists, etc, but none of them went autistic over ideology, and they were mostly content doing whatever franco wanted done because their common hatred for the leftists was much stronger than their ideological differences. and after they won, franco more or less gave them all a little bit of what they wanted - the church got to keep its prominent position in society, the conservatives got to keep the traditional social and economic order, the militarists got positions of power in the state, the fascists got assimilated into the military and state institutions, and the monarchists got a vague promise that spain would return to monarchy in the future, a promise that franco actually kept when he made juan carlos prince (and later king) of spain in the 70s.
