There's a huge difference between "Reddit hired someone who appears to be okay with raping children" and "a Reddit powermod is a deadbeat parent". Posting this story over there would clearly fall afoul of harassment/doxxing rules and it would be vigorously enforced, as discussing Bardfinn by name is already verboten in a lot of communities.

The only reason why the Challenor story played out differently was because the MSM started picking up on Reddit's trying to suppress the story, and outraged users were reposting it all over the site and upvoting it to the front page. These are the required conditions for Reddit to act on an internal scandal like this, and this story will not trigger sufficient outrage for these conditions to apply.

The fucked-upness of the powermod clique means that the stories will be more-fucked but also less-likely to leak. None of these people are probably in a position to be like "that's it, I quit, I'm going to reallocate my free time to hitting the gym and teaching my son how to throw a football." It's crucial that their whole social circle and sense of self-worth be tied to the clique. Deprogramming would take a while and the group would have time to cover its tracks (eg. shuffle around to alt accounts and such) before they started pointing fingers.

This also makes the group resistant to infiltration, since you'd have to go through extensive personal vetting to really be a part of one of these cliques where the really interesting shit is happening.

this clique is not just a bunch of powerjannies with some sort of class solidarity but that there are weird cliques of hugely fucked-up degenerates who have captured power on Reddit and promote eachother since being part of the fucked-up ingroup indicates that you're trustworthy. The effectiveness of these mechanisms is why the Challenor affair basically had no insider leaks about what exactly Reddit was thinking in hiring her - they have a bunker mentality and leaks are rare except when they try to do something large/controversial like the Banout, whose public failure probably just caused the cabal to exercise power more subtlely.

I've read the thread. I've been familiar with Bardfinn for a while, since she was getting poked at on /r/drama. It's not enough. Most people who have no idea who she is and never will. It's not going to get picked up by MSM. I'm content to agree to disagree on this and see how things play out over the coming months though. Even for Challenor her pedo ties were known for a while before Reddit canned her - it's only when she started working the job that people started speaking out enough. But obviously Bardfinn isn't being hired by Reddit.

Also, I disagree with the idea that she has some sort of privileged API access at Reddit. I've seen no strong evidence that she does anything that one can't do with basic webscraping, public API access, and intermediate DBA skills and a lot of free time. It's been a while since I browsed the full thread and I think maybe she's spoken a couple times as if she had some sort of privileged information but it seems likely that she's just exaggerating/lying.

To be honest I think it will be pretty easy to dance around this. As much as the admins bend over backwards to protect Bardfinn the prohibition is mostly against mentioning her by (user)name. If you make a comment like "why should we listen to AHS when some of its mods are known felons and wife-beaters?" then yes Bardfinn will seethe and report it but it fails to constitute harassment similar to how you can't get banned for saying that AHS posts CP.

I've noticed most transpeople don't respect the pronouns of notorious rat kings.
