Ian's videos always had that effect on me of making me think of how stupid he must look in his room recording. Like tiktoks and vines give you that feeling instantly that the person making it had to enter some dissociative fugue state in order to get through it. Not everyone feels like that, for example Filthy Frank as absurd as it was I guess was ridiculous enough it's Jackass-style just explained itself and didn't feel awkward. But Ian's videos are just depressing, especially the older ones where he looks like an actual elf.
Does Ian even have an audience anymore? His popularity peaked with Content Cop and the collabs he did with other edge-lords of his hay day. He stopped making Content Cops just around the time Youtube changed its policies and he toned down on his edgy persona. His videos are pretty boring and generic now. Yet, somehow he still gets millions of views from mundane shit like "fast food tier list."
It's just the way that Youtube works with how it recommends things. His audience has definitely dwindled since the cuckold saga started, which is pretty clear just looking at the drop in numbers starting after his 'sex workers' video. But given how many subscribers he still has and how many views he used to get, Youtube will continue to recommend his videos forever. A lot of channels that used to be huge and slowly faded into irrelevance are like this. Despite having fallen off the map, they continue to get hundreds of thousands of views on every video years later just from how much exposure Youtube's search algorithms gives them. I guess we could call it 'residual clout.' A little bit of work put into search optimization tricks like tagging, topicality, and regular uploads goes a long way towards maintaining your position in the search algorithms. It all works because people will watch anything on youtube if you shove it in their face enough.

See, the big difference here is that Critical is a genuine and likable person who's good at the niche he fills. There's a very good reason Critical gets hundreds of thousands, if not over a million views per video while Ian gets... significantly less than 100k per video.
