No one can commit a munchie against their will permanently. She's been in for brief holds, for as long as they could legally keep her. She gets out, and she fucks herself up again.

She's an adult woman hell bent on picking her legs off. She's allowed to do so. No one is obliged to intervene, as Kelly had no wish for help.

I've avoided Kelly's thread since early on cause it really bums me out but this update has left me really angry. This woman has been utterly failed by her doctors and should have been institutionalised well before this point. The docs themselves have noted the shit in the wounds so you either have a patient who is carrying out extreme self harm OR at the very least one with a demonstrated incapacity to care for basic hygiene around the wounds. Letting it get this far is shocking tbh.

BC's criteria for involuntary commitment requires immediate threat of harm to self (or others). Giving yourself a fatal infection is not "immediate" enough to survive a court challenge and no BC public health authority would want to incur Kelly's PR nightmare when she runs to every local paper/the BC Human Rights Tribunal alleging abuse and imprisonment- she can look pretty normal from the shoulders up crying in a media photo, and the factual details of her illness can't be published because of Canadian privacy laws. In addition to legal barriers, there are never any open psych beds in BC and no non-forensic psych institutions that would take someone like Kelly who would need years of care and isn't elderly. Harming yourself to death isn't illegal as long as it's gradual... and thus the entire west coast's homelessness problem, most fatal munchies, etc.

Kelly has been institutionalized at least twice for short periods of time, but she was just as compliant with her mental health treatment as she is with caring for her leg wounds. She will not get mental health treatment willingly, and Munchausen Syndrome already doesn’t have a clear protocol to recovery.

Doctors have tried everything. Similar to someone like Ashley Isaacs, it’s just been accepted there’s nothing that can be done aside from emergency care like this.

Kelly has classic munchausen. If the usual port n’ purge munchies lost their social media accounts and their audience they would quickly lose interest in faking sick. A lot of them drop elements of their stories when they become painful or inconvenient. I just made a post on the munchausen by internet thread where I caught up with some of my girls I posted over the last year and almost all of them have either stopped posting or walked back their claims because covid. They don’t want to be actually sick and the virus frightens them so they’re not going to the ER, and they don’t want to go to Disney with their puppies anymore, so they just ...stopped everything. They couldn’t keep making up shit that got asspats or taking cute photoa with Mickey and Minnie and so they lost interest.

If Kelly didn’t have social media nothing would change. She’d still be doing this. She thrives on the attention of her doctors, not the internet. We’re just a bonus. Kelly didn’t go around shopping at doctors for specific diagnoses and toys like the MBI crew; she destroyed herself in ways that forced her local ER to treat her with no clear preference for what her diagnosis or treatment was.

the Floridians are the kind who can be “cured” by just calling them on their lies until they run out of options and they get bored of trying. Kelly will never get better because she doesn’t care if everyone knows she’s doing this; she’s going to continue doing it and forcing them to save her until one day they can’t.

For the people just now catching up, she also apparently used scissors to score her legs. She was caught because one of her doctors was like "WTF are these deep scratches on your bones?"

I've seen shit this gory on the internet but it's always been like homeless people who got trench foot that went straight through gangrene and on to a massive maggot infestation.

It's interesting to see this level of horror in a housed person living in the first world. And by "interesting" I mean this is the one thread that I regretted ever getting started with and I've sent links to a lot of people because I can't be alone in this.
