The vast majority are just surgical masks or cloth things. It's not just having a typical surgical filter that matters. The virus enters the body easily even through that, let alone other ways like I said. The mask is, as you said, more of a reminder to oneself and others about the pandemic than it is a way to truly prevent illness in itself.
Hence why "double-masking" is so absurdly stupid.

The complaint isn't "my life is being significantly damaged by this ineffective requirement," it is "I cannot believe I'm being moderately inconvenienced
by this ineffective equipment". Just because something isn't damaging doesn't mean it's not obnoxious to deal with, especially in hot weather, let alone if someone has respiratory problems to begin with. But the masks issue was never my focus anyway so although I can understand why people find it stupid it's also not a big deal to me--unless you're liable to be fined for not wearing it outside (not in a business, I mean outside). That's asinine.
I wear my mask everywhere I like, personally. Some are different. It's just stupid for people to "Karen" at others about not wearing it unless I'm stuck on a train with you or something.
