Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I think a lot of people have a natural fear of death (with the exception of young children who struggle with the concept and religious folks that have accepted that life is terminal) and believe that this life is it. Your soul is one and done. Or something like that. I guess I can see that kind of thing to a point and so I can correlate the fear of death to needing to "believe the science!".

honestly think social media is warping peoples' self-image to the point of no one being confident enough to show their faces.
Hand in hand with this, it's easy for random people on the internet to criticize -- right or wrong, justly or unjustly -- people's pictures. If someone doesn't match up with another person's "type," it's easy for so called hate mobs to pop up and criticize the pictures/posts. Sometimes, the criticism is rather harsh, cruel, and mean-spirited. Since people don't seem to grasp the idea of not taking harsh criticism too much to heart (or not publicly posting stuff to which they don't really want undue attention attracted), they respond to the hateful comments by using filters and filtered pictures of themselves that hide the real person. This makes it easier than it already was for someone to be something they aren't over the internet -- making it all about the public persona or facade they want others to see instead of the real self. As it is, seeing adults using some of the SnapChat filters such as the dog face makes them look more immature than someone worth knowing or interacting with.

Also coinciding with this is a lack of self confidence. Nobody is taught to truly embrace who they are in spite of their struggles and imperfections. instead we have the HAES and other movements used to justify people making poor decisions if it means the feel better about themselves in the process.

COVID seems to have made things worse in this respect.

This has been bugging me for months. This entire lockdown has been motivated by fear of death.... But unless you subscribe to some religion that damns you (and you specifically, not just "bad people") to eternal torment, why be so afraid?

I guess I don't really want my grandparents to die, but that hasn't stopped them so far, and if there's an afterlife, I expect we'll all meet again.
Well if a person hasnt experienced something they tend not be afraid.

Heres a very odd ball theory. Maybe we fear death cause weve been through it before (reincarnation)?

The declaration from President 46* that those who have not been vaccinated "will pay the price" both pissed me off and left me concern about my future. First of all, the CDC guidelines seem to be pointless since certain places are still mandating masks even if your vaccinated (i.e. nursing homes). That being said the peer pressure being made to get the vaccine looks to be create a caste system between those who are vaccinated and those who are not. Even if someone like me is in the low-risk category to being gravely impacted by the Kung flu and I'm among people who've gotten the shot, the "experts" deem me as the 21st century Typhoid Mary.

My place of employment recently sent an email where they echo the guidelines so I am one of the few that has to wear a mask. Aside from work I will be patronizing various businesses without a mask and not answer if I have been vaccinated or say that I am. I've stated before that lying about my vaccine status is wrong but to reference an infamous meme, honor is a distance memory. Considering that those in power have broken the very rules they've implemented on the masses and suffered no punishment, why should the rest of us abide by these double standards?

As long as these guidelines remain in place there will be a divide between those who got vaccinated and those who did not. My fear is that this divide will have an effect on my relationship with my friends and family.

As long they dont force me to take it then Im fine with whatever they do.

Modern medicine has been the drive of all the ‘prevent death at all costs’ mentality. It’s the trade off for all the positive things medicine has done.
Someone upthread quoted steel magnolias ‘I’d rather have 30 minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special’ and that’s kind of the motto I live by. I’ve seen so many people be taken in the stupidest ways. Death is the price we pay for life.

current plan for ''return to normality'' in quebec; Pretty much meaningless still too strict too slow, just to show they're doing something will actually doing nothing
--re--
28 may:
curfew removal
Outdoor dining allowed
outside gathering allowed* 8 person max or peoples in 2 different house (with 2 meter distantion, of course)

11 june
outdoor bar opening
outdoor sport allowed* 25 people max
Yikes that isn't much of an improvement. Any word if masks are still going to be forced outside? This is absolutely ridiculous, Canadians are a bunch of cowards/sheep, what will it take to wake up my nation?

I wonder if there would be an option to tinker with test parameters for vaccinated and unvaccinated people. Like, continue using ct>30 for unvaccinated, but ct>20 for vaccinated for positive test result. Y'know, because vaccinated people are way less contagious and so on.

Every time I've been out walking, all I see is discarded masks. No joke, they've replaced the discarded condoms and crisp packets almost completely.

I live in a horrible place.
I've been to parks and seen discarded disposable masks. And it's always the disposable kind, usually the blue ones. What's with people having even worn them out in nature, especially on long trails, and then just throwing them away in the middle of nowhere? I guess the people that do this are the same common denominator of retards that bought into all of the nonsense of the 'pandemic' in the first place. Explains a few things.

Took a drive down the traffic jammed highway the other day. Every digital billboard had a "Get your vaccine today!" ad in the mix. Every overpass sign that normally alerts for traffic accidents had "Together we can defeat COVID. Please vax up." I've had stalkers less persistent. Daily reminder that TPTB are getting this invasive and creepy over a cold.

Bonus: Facebook Karens spotted claiming that everyone should still wear face diapers around the under-18 crowd, as they're "at risk" because they haven't had access to the jab yet. TEENAGERS. You know, the age cohort that had one, ONE hamgalaxy die over this last year. Covid is a cult.

I'm wondering nowadays if the reason they're so damned pushy about vaxxing people has something to do with promises politicians made to big pharma donors who are now reminding them that they have enough money to make people disappear from politics. You know, due to lack of sales or whatever.

Even more incentive not to get it. Fuck you, pay me.
