It always makes me smile when I see them put forward these fake maps where California swaps to red. In addition to having one of the biggest D over R margins (29.16%), it's such a big, diverse state that it'll take a pretty major series of social shifts to change that. In fact, compared to 2016 California actually did shift a little red (it was the third largest percent margin in 2016, in 2020 it was 6th), but it was still just under a percentage point because California's absolute vote margin (non-percentage) of over 5 million is as big as the next four largest states combined (for reference, Florida and Texas had a combined absolute vote margin of just over a million, about half as much as New York's).I agree with your point generally, but Blue Texas is a hell of a lot closer than Red California. I see Texas slowly drifting left due to immigrants, Austin growing in population, COMMIEFORNIA expatriates, etc.
Edit: Also I really think someone on the left will pose a legitimate challenge and probably beat Ted Cruz in the foreseeable future. Literally nobody likes that guy to the point where a charismatic goofball loser made a decent run at his seat.
Or he might be primaried by the right, I dunno. One way or the other, I don’t think he’ll be around more than another couple of election cycles.
You'd probably have better luck getting New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, Maryland, and Washington to all go red than getting California since you'd need to switch a similar number of voters from a much larger population.
