Honestly, it's not far-fetched to me. We may have a bastard exterior, but it's usually because we care about the well being of people in general. Nobody really wants to watch someone light themselves on fire, but when you have no direct input anyway sometimes sitting back and watching the blaze is the only way to deal with how inhuman some people on the site are. Like laughing when you're nervous. Note: this is definitely not everyone, but you can generally tell those with some heart and hope left.
