Is the sopranos overrated?

No, its actually the only show I have ever watched that actually deserves its hype. Season 1 gets better with the context of the other seasons. They all build upon one another into one of the most continuous shows I have ever seen produced. It all makes sense and every characters actions is well explored and explained.

You may miss the explanation on the first go around, because holy shit is it subtle sometimes. But every time I have watched through it I always notice something new, hell I have noticed small things that completely changed entire characters for me.

Sopranos fans by and large however like it for all the wrong reasons.

Maybe I just expected too much, but I just spent the entire time waiting for FUCKING SOMETHING to happen. 90% of the show is talking about family and friends drama. That is not why I watch a show about the mafia.

In addition to that, there's a lot of things that are objective problems with it, like suddenly abandoning interesting subplots without any real conclusion (the one with the lamp really pissed me off). Also the subplot with Dr Melfi's rape just got dropped like a fucking hot potato. I'm told it gets mentioned later but I got through an entire season and a half and they just pretended like it didn't fucking happen, despite that potentially becoming much more interesting than anything else that was going on.

I think the one really really good episode I saw was the one with the escaped commando. It's really too bad more of the show wasn't like that.

No, but it has zero re-watchability because of that bullshit ending. You don't want to rewatch something you know has no conclusion to it; even if you already know the conclusion.

Yeah, the ending to Sopranos was pure brilliance. I don't know how anyone could hate it.

But... that commando episode, nothing happened!

Don't get me wrong, the commando episode was great, but it was like an hour of two guys sitting in a van in the woods. If your beef is with nothing happening, then why pick the commando episode as your favorite?

After watching the first season again I'm starting to have this sentiment.
Shut the fuck up and get me some gabagool.

The ending is Tony gets shot by the guy who walked into the bathroom. It fades to black because the camera was in Tony's prespective as he dies. I don't like it comes off as jerkoff material for the overy analytical media "reviewers". I would of prefered it if you saw him die for his sins and his family members reaction.
