Then, because he's a "variety streamer", even after release day DSP will go several days without resuming the game because he has convinced himself that if he only plays one game, then he can't get "contributions" from everyone. One time before a marathon someone asked him if he could just play Sekiro the whole time, and DSP said that if he did then he would lose money because those people that don't like Sekiro would skip the marathon.
This is how we know his schedule is for ulterior motives.

The truth is that Phil just doesn't want to stick with a particular game through to the end if it means putting in a lot of hours in a few days. He doesn't like his job, so he stretches it out, because it means he at least gets a break from certain types of games. His attention span is shit when it comes to games, too, so he gets bored quickly anyway.

But it's mostly about how routine it is. Play a couple hours of one game, move on to the next one. Lather, rinse, repeat. It's about him, not even about being seen as anything. Like I've said, he isn't a professional streamer. He's a fat idiot who wants a lazy job and so he broadcasts a facet of his embarrassing life in exchange for shekels. That is why nothing he does with his "business" is ever a legit business decision. DSPGaming is the Truman Show, if the Truman Show had the worst ratings possible and still stayed on the air.

Yeah I'll never get how he thinks spreading a playthrough out over the course of weeks is possibly a good business decision. Now I don't watch letsplays or streamers, but I would think playing a game consistently for a week would be better so that people could easily follow along with the playthrough instead of playing four to six games concurrently.

Dave already expects people to watch/hear about every stream anyway since he'll refuse to answer questions that he's answered before sometimes saying he already answered em on a previous stream, so it's not like he really expects people to actually skip streams.
His logic is basically "I can't play nothing but Returnal for a week because then the people that don't like Returnal won't give me money that week."

But if he plays Returnal one stream, COD one stream, VF5 on stream, et cetera, then he thinks that he can get money from people that like all of those games.

DSP is convinced that people are more willing to give him money based on the game that he's playing, not because they like him as a streamer (outside the big whales). That's also why he literally threatens to wagequit every time he misses the tip goal; he legitimately believes that the only reason that he missed the goal is because he didn't play a game that people wanted to pay to see him play.

This goes doubly hilarious by DSP just refusing to play games like Guilty Gear, and then overruling polls with "da trolls voted; nobody REALLY wants to see me play it."

people show up to throw money at him when he's playing a specific game, then there's a $28 stream and all of a sudden "noone likes the game, I don't know why"

Ryzen CPUs are so fucking insane when it comes to streaming that he could honestly push 144 ingame fps 1080p with under 2k. To be fair, you need to sacrifice your firstborn to get a graphics card at the moment, but in more typical circumstances I consider 2k to be pushing the boundary where you're going for aesthetics on top of performance. A R5 3600 was enough for me to stream games at 1080p 60fps with zero performance hit whatsoever. Streaming PCs aren't necessary these days at all.

Of course though, this all assumes he builds it himself, which we all know he would be great at because he used to build computers all the time in the 2000s.
Yeah, I got an R7 3700 myself (albeit with only an RTX 2080 Super in it). The whole thing cost me around 1,5k.

While we're discussing his schedule/audience, something I've never really understood is who exactly are these people that just watch someone play video games all day, every day? If dsp is a "full-time streamer" doesn't that make his audience "full-time viewers"? Obviously the past year or so more people are working from home so maybe some people watch him while working remotely but how are there people that can just spend the normal working hours of the day just watching someone play video games? This is just a massive timesink for "entertainment". If you're like a huge sports fan or something, that kind of thing only requires a 3 hour time commitment multiple times per week. Who spends 6 to 8 hours per day, 6 days a week on "entertainment" related activities? It just seems like a huge waste of time to dedicate so much time to something so unproductive, never mind the fact that some of these people are actually paying money for this too.

Do other streamers also stream the majority of the day, most of the week? I would assume most only do a couple hours a day at most but I really don't know.

Being a legit dsp fan seems like it would be a massive time commitment, how would you ever be caught up on his content? Wouldnt you get bored of just watching the same guy play video games for a good chunk of your day?

But they had not gone twenty yards when they stopped short. An uproar of voices was coming from the Discord. They rushed back and looked through the window again. Yes, a violent quarrel was in progress. There were shoutings, bangings on the table, sharp suspicious glances, furious denials. The source of the trouble appeared to be that Mighty D and Kinggoken had each played an ace of spades simultaneously.

Twelve voices were shouting in anger, and they were all alike. No question, now, what had happened to the faces of the pigs. The kiwis outside looked from pig to troll, and from troll to pig, and from pig to troll again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

If this thread us turning into the "praise anime\hololive girls thread" I can add that I watched the dog girl play the original altered beast for hours in a stream until she beat it. No save states or anything. I dread to think what Philippe's playthrough would be like. The complaining would be off the charts.
He's played it on genesis mini in the last few years and beat it, save scumming the entire way.

He needs the latest games and consoles immediately to maintain his self delusion that he's relevant.

I also speculate that he's still driven to get the latest shit cause that's how he got popular in the past. He'd buy the latest games at midnight at launch, play for three hours or so, then upload 30 videos to youtube that night. That way he was number one in the search results when someone looked for whatever "white hot popular" game just came out.

So basically, it's part of DSP's cargo cult ritual of trying to achieve success without fully understanding the reasons why what worked in the past worked and more importantly why it stopped working.
Really well said. He used uploads so many 5-10 minute videos and you know editing is easy for Dave.
The hilarious part is that because of his pinwheel schedule, he can't even really get those views any more. He doesn't do "midnight streams", so by the time he actually starts playing the game it is like 2:30 pm Eastern and people have beaten the game already. Then, because he's a "variety streamer", even after release day DSP will go several days without resuming the game because he has convinced himself that if he only plays one game, then he can't get "contributions" from everyone. No doubt fans come to see certain games but been thinking even if he went down to stream 2 games a week, he'd still see the whale monies. Can't remember if it was your post or texas funnyhair but his need to complete games is weird. He could've gone TheRadBrad route and dropped games after likes on the video went down, not making a big deal about it. I'm curious if Dave has crapped on Brad since what they were doing was nearly the same around the same time but Brad is more successful now?

I think most people that watch streamers either pick one favorite, or have it in background noise and perk up when something interesting happens.

There's ZERO chance that anyone watches DSP's full archives that he "needs" to upload every night. DSP could have maybe gotten his Youtube channel back up and running again if he had someone loyal that would condense everything to like a 12-20 minute "highlight" video every day. But (1) imagine trying to unironically make a 10 minute video of DSP highlights every day, (2) DSP might have to pay someone $20/day and that's literally impossible dood, and (3) the reason he uploads the videos is because that USED to be the way to maximize ad revenue. That's why DSP bitched out Youtube every time they changed the formulas/algorithms.

DSP still strawmans that he can't get a full-time job because da trolls want him to make less money. The reality is that if DSP only did the night stream, he would probably make close if not the same amount of money every day streaming.

Also, DSP is really weird about on the one hand, he hates a game and stalls forever, but at the same time he'll try to 100% the game for the accomplishment or something. It's bizarre.

In short he is complaining about too much work, playing a game learning combos, so is dropping it
I love the part where he basically admits that the only reason he picked VF5 over GG Strive is so he can dunk on scrubs.
"I can't play this game over the summer, it's a free PS+ game and because of that it's gonna be dead or if it's not I'll have to face people who have played for months and know shit I don't know and I'll just get destroyed, y'know."

He did the line about "This right here, this sucks ☝️ " again and went with his usual self-pitying "It is what it is" phrase too. Only autists and hate-watchers are gonna want to see a miserable 39-going-on-90 geriatric alcoholic play games poorly and whine about his boomer adventures in shopping. Phil would do well not to annoy his remaining wheelchairs, but it's Phil so he will.

I just love how "Maybe asking for $400 a day has tapped my tiny audience" really isn't a possibility in his mind, no clearly people are withholding money because they don't like the game he's playing

Any entry level PC can stream 1080p at a very high level. In 2019, Phil could have built or bought one easily for under $1k and have no problems for years. I have a 2700x I got for $150 and it streams with no problems at all.

Everytime he plays a game in 60fps, he gets a smaller orgasm (well, its still up in the air if he can do that or not), he really should just get a good pc and a ps5. But you know... he is lazy.
