Best Redesigns - The opposite of the Worst Redesigns thread

I don't think movies fit this thread but the only movie remakes that were even better than the original were the Horror ones from the 80s based on earlier movies from the 50s and 60s. The Thing, The Fly, The Blob, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers are the only movie remakes or reimaginings that I can enjoy as they took movies that could have used improvement with awesome practical effects unlike present day remakes that movie studios are clueless for ideas or trying to hold on there copyright to their IP.
Personally, I find Invasion of the Body Snatchers to be way too long and boring. I'd rather get a similar and overall cooler experience from They Live.

GTA 3's original cover. This was changed due to being "too raw" after 9/11.

This has a better flow and is more distinguishable. And is the staple for subsequent GTA releases.

PlayStation 4 and Xbox One's redesigns.

Too bulky. I do not the sharp edges. Plus, dust would get trapped on them easily.

Smaller and more slender. Although the PS4 Pro and PS4 OG are similar in size, the three stack design looks better on a table.

Xbox One:

Need I say more? Can't stand it up, damn thing looks like a VCR and was heavy as hell.

Much needed slim redesign. Bonus points for making the power supply internal. Less clutter and more appealing to the eyes. I wish they had them in black. White just ages faster than black.
Your attachments are busted, FYI.

Rayman may be getting shit all but mobile games but I have to say that they did a great job redesigning Mr.Dark in the Origin/Legends style, it makes me wish that he was actually chosen to be the villain for Origins.

It does suck that he's just a quest giver thing in the game but still pretty cool redesign.

This got featured in Bad designs TWICE, so quoting from there for extra irony
A certain post 90's design of the Riddler. Even the Batman Beyond Riddler was a better redesign than a particular design that comes to mind. He was bald and lost the mask, but at least he was recognizible.

Where are his organs, did they get squished up into his chest cavity?

Why does he look like a poorly-passing troon? :'(

It's like they tried to make him edgy by giving him more sharp angles than the Bruce Timms design.

Later redesigns have improved, but jfc this one is horrifying in the wrong ways.

There was a Batman show in the mid-2000s called "The Batman". This show had the misfortune of coming after the critically acclaimed animated series from the 90s, and had massive shoes to fill. It never really stood a chance. While the show had its moments, it's often just seen as a poor man's TAS. One of the most infamous things about the show were the character redesigns, most of which were fucking ugly. The Joker's design is probably the most well known, just because of how weird it is. However, the Riddler is probably the worst offender, he looks like an anorexic goth. Joker at least had the excuse of being in a very action oriented show, so him being a weird monkey/jester/demon thing at least makes sense, but I have no idea who approved of the Riddler design.

I still am thinking they could have kept him a redhead, tho, not much goth redheads...but this would have needed design adjustments.

Xbox is changing their box art template for the next generation.

I like how it leaves more space for the box art to thrive. I wonder what would the backwards compatible titles for Xbox 360 would look like. At least it's not PS5 with changing the banner from blue to white and just typing PS5.

The Hell Knight in Doom II was a generic palette swap of the Baron of Hell.

doom 2 hell knight.jpg

Not bad, but definitely one of the weaker designs of the OG Doom roster. Doesn't help that all the other palette swaps look like they had more effort put into them (the shotgun guys vs the zombiemen just to name an example).

Doom 3 comes along and redesigns every returning enemy, with varying results in quality (the Revenants look cool but the Cacodemons are weird and ugly). Perhaps the best redesign though was the Hell Knight, and the game was so proud of this that it displayed its rendition right there on the front box.

Not only is it one of the more intimidating enemies in the game, it looks legitimately great with the weird barely noticeable eyes, the armored skin, the hulking size, the skinless mouth. Just a great design all around, and was kept for Doom 2016 (and is probably the one thing the sequels kept from Doom 3 in general). It's cool that the Hell Knight finally has an identity outside of just being a weaker Baron of Hell.

I am a big Sega Genesis fan from years playing and collecting the library. One of the things you noticed that a good amount of the Japanese games ported to the US had the cover redesigned by western artists and usually was not as good and pointless at best in my opinion.

However the only Western cover redesign I like better than the Japanese is a strategy RPG called Warsong, renamed from Langrisser. The Japanese cover of Langrisser is just the main character but the Warsong cover is more majestic with more things going for it with the battle, castle, and the horse. Also the main character is pretty close represenation of the main character that most western artist wouldn't bother trying to depict.

I like how they slimmed down the DS from a bulky PDA to a slimmer piece of technology with the DS Lite.

The DS Lite is certainly more fashionable. Bonus points for the multitude of colors available for it. AND for keeping the GBA compatibility.

Your unending thirst for old women is both legit fascinating and mildly entertaining.
Thank you.

On that note, Jessica Walter from Arrested Development and Archer. God rest her soul.

I feel that we, as a society, automatically embrace youth as beauty. That's not always the case. If you take care of yourself and have a positive attitude, you could look stunning each and every day.

I think particularly with invasion of the body snatchers that the original is much better. It works better in a small town than it did in San Francisco. There is a stupid over the top 'quality' to the remake. My only problem with the original is that it's a little on the short side I rewatched it just a few weeks ago. I also dislike the fly remake. The ending of the original was one of the most memorable endings I saw of a movie when I was a kid.

But I do agree on the thing, although the 50s version is not a bad movie The screenwriters took it in a completely different direction from the actual work and Carpenter was just restoring it to pretty close to the source material.

I vote for best redesign the Nintendo entertainment system. The original toaster is one of the worst designs of a console ever and it succeeded despite itself. 90% of the problems with the original Nintendo are because of the stupid way you load carts into it. The only problem with the top loader was that you were sacrificing composite video that the original toaster system did have. And unbeknownst to us at the time, you also sacrifice the ability to mod in the extra audio channels that are present on The originals PCB.

I would have putted the Top loader NES as the better redesign if it included the composite video. Sucked for years dealing with the toaster cart connection and top loader rf only video quality. I was that dorky enough to get the AVS so I can have good video quality and decent console design without modding my top loader.
