I think Marisa is a good example of many in her audience. She started watching Chantal bc she wanted to feel better about her fat self and enjoyed watching a fatty bigger than herself gorge so she can feel superior. "I might be a sloppy uddered loser who lives with my folks at 42, but I got a man and a baby so I am better than this bitch" energy. But that morphed into wanting to be part of the action bc she is not only fat, but apparently (apparent from her availability, not bc of verifiable evidence) also unemployed and extremely bored/lazy. So then her role became white knight for her unfortunate, weird, fatter internet friend. But Chantal isn't fatter than Marisa now (if her scale is to be believed), so their relationship has changed again. Now Marisa is actively encouraging Chantal to overeat, order food, do drugs, and 'date' the absolute dregs of society. Marisa is in full sabotage mode. That is why she hates KJ so much. She don't give a fuck that he blocks people or is a full crazy person, she wants him gone so that Chantal continues to hurt herself. This Marisa hoe only loves Chantal for the entertainment she provides and the ability to compare herself to Chantal favorably. That, and the fact that she gets to be an active bitch with no repercussions.
I see Marisa more as a woman who is dissatisfied with her own life (fat, fat husband, lives with mum and dad, well past her prime and saddled with motherhood, nothing to do all day) and she sees Chantal as a rebellious version of what Marisa could have been. Drugs! Sleeping with dangerous exciting strangers! Pig out all day and get paid for it! Everyone kissing up to her! Money to waste on any stupid whim!
Midlife crisis is hitting Marisa hard and she wants to live vicariously and dangerously through Chantal, saying FUCK IT to responsibilities, family drudgery and what the doctor advises.
Eat more, Chantal! Do more drugs! Have unprotected sex with more strangers! Never clean your house! Be fat and faaaabulous and wealthy! Marisa can’t do these things, but she can safely experience them through Chantal!
Most telling is Marisa’s child looks very young, likely born when Marisa was past 35. How much would you like to bet she settled down with the first man who would have her? Less a dizzying romantic trip into matrimony for these crazy 20-something kids, more a “this is the last chance I have to get a husband, might as well” decision, made by two people heading into 40, not even well-off enough to have their own place, but desperate enough to make do and get married. Marisa settled
hard and she knows it and she hates it.
Add in the heady power trip of modding and deciding who stays and who goes, in a life where her decisions otherwise mean very little and she has no real power over anyone, and you’ve got one big fat repressed bitch, itching to push others around to feed her own stifled ego, while encouraging Chantal to make all the midlife crisis choices Marisa longs to make.
Man up and do it yourself, Marisa. Run away from your fat hubby and elderly parents. Do drugs, drive around at night, shack up with edgy strangers, live on a whim, spend money like it's endless, throw that diet book out and pig yourself into a food coma. You only make Chantal do it for you because you fear the consequences.
