Tommy's latest addition to his 'catalogue' of skills is just another desperate attempt to shoehorn in something that could be considered a legacy; something he'll be remembered for fondly.

This is because Tommy fears death. He spent the most formative years of his life doing nothing and blaming everyone else for his faults. Now he's at the critical junction where there's nothing about him that people would consider worth remembering. He's never married. Never had kids. The kind of stuff he thinks will make him famous are the hobbies and pastimes of other men in his age group...things they do to merely entertain themselves and others.

All Tommy has is a lexicon of sup-par abilities where even children are well beyond his capacity of talent. Music, rock collecting, cooking and now 'journalism'...all meager attempts by a slowly decaying husk to seize some revalence before he shifts from the mortal coil because there won't be a front page editorial for him. No parade. No massive family gathering speaking of his past accomplishments.

Just a three line mention in the obituaries that no one will rightly recall.
