People who know Poker, explain this to me. - How does a Pair of Kings beat a Flush?

I decided to boot up Poker Night at the Inventory and while not the best, I like to think that I'm at least competent at Poker (this is specifically Texas Hold'em) but how the Hell does a Pair of Kings beat out a Flush? This can't even be a high card kind of deal because my flush also included a King!

Am I just a brainlet or is this bastard Max fucking me?

Edit: The second game seems to have been coded by someone less incompetent. I haven't encountered a single case of bullshit. On the downside, Claptrap is present.

I would also like to know the answer to this.

I read this and am still confused: https://www.liveabout.com/poker-hands-what-beats-what-537514

How do both hands have a King of Spades and Jack of Spades?
It's hold'em, meaning at least three of the cards in each hand are shared table cards.
how the Hell does a Pair of Kings beat out a Flush?
It doesn't. You should beat up the gook programmer Gaben brought in on an H1-B to code this shoddy nonsense.

It doesn’t under any circumstance. So I’m guessing Max is coded to fuck with you or whoever made the game has no idea how poker works. Was Max the crazy rabbit or the dog in a suit?

It’s reassuring to know that I’m not just some moron. I didn’t find any other accounts of this happening but I did find these two posts about the second game, so I guess both entries have some fucky comparison logic.

It still sucks that this happened though because that little cheater went all in, I should’ve won the whole game then and there.

Coding issues, most likely. Anyway, the game was only fine for the crossover aspect but other than that nothing else great about it. At least you still managed to own the game since you cannot purchase it anymore.

I hope you're not gonna try and 100% the game though.

I never owned it on Steam, unfortunately. I just decided to find them both on Pirate Bay as a curiosity.

Yeah, I'm done with this shit. I don't need this smug dweeb mocking my clearly should-be-winning plays.

On to the sequel.

Edit: Never mind; both players don't need to share the same three cards. I'm reading way too fast again.

I haven't had any of these kinds of problems, and I have a lot of playtime on Poker Night 1

Yeah, that's probably the anti-piracy kicking in. I didn't know it'd do that, neato.

Well, that sucks. Poker Night 2 is better anyway. Also Steam keys might still be cheap because they handed the Poker Night games out like candy in like every Telltale humble bundle
I thought about that but if they went to the effort of making anti-piracy, surely they'd want the AI to win every time.

I think some games do subtle bullshit like that just to coax out people posting about problems and then the devs can have fun shaming them for pirating the game, like with what happened with Batman Arkham Asylum

What I want to know is how bankrupt Telltale could afford a license to make Batman games but couldn't get Bruce Campbell to voice Ash in PN2.
Telltale was doing great after the first The Walking dead game and poker night 2 came out a year after that, in 2013. My guess is Bruce Campbell wasn't available at the time to do voice acting.

Gonna take a moment to sperg about telltale:
I wanna say telltale began going to shit the moment they began doing big movie/tv licensed games. Back to the future and jurassic park came out in 2010 or 2011 and they both sucked major dick, both critics and fan slammed the games, I recall a common complaint was "looks like a gamecube game"
Then their Walking dead game came out and won them a bunch of awards and money, employes BEGGED to invest some money on tech and upgrading their engine and instead they are told to fuck off and keep working with what they had. That was another big factor, thwy were working with old tech which made animation a pain in the ass since they had to do everything by hand.
You could argue they made licensed games before they made it big with TWD but
1) they started going for more popular franchises (borderlands, minecraft, batman) which means more money is spent on licenses
2) they made more and bigger games and the tools remained shit, they had to start hiring more people.
Seriously, they released so many games I stopped keeping up after the wolf among us.
At least I had a good laugh after they went under since there were so many people on twitter begging for jobs, many of which had positions I can only describe as "idea guy".
