Is the meanness when cons don’t provide bare minimum of what they agreed to on the contract?

No one is talking about cons.

The context was his 'forgiveness' of the defendants, and his assertion of what he wants. It rings hollow when I know he has said other things in a more genuine fashion.

I guarantee you if any of the defendants contacted him and offered him some sort of peace offering or apology for what they said or did, he'd forgive them on the spot, but it's that same kindness and naivety that they took advantage of and blind sighted him in the first place when he was at the peak of his career.

I don't think he's a fool. He might forgive them, but he'll know what they are forever, and will never actually trust them again.

Nor have anything to do with them; you can forgive someone for what they have done, but that doesn't mean you have to interact with them, especially since you now KNOW what kind of person they are. It's more about letting go of your negative feelings toward the people who have wronged you rather than holding onto them. But it's difficult to do.
