The odds must be higher if he's over in Japan. The usual move of faking botching the attempt seems like an easy move in a western hospital, but I can imagine having high anxiety attempting the same thing in Japan, especially with their manners around shame and suicide being completely alien, etc.

Like with most social trouble over the internet, just disconnecting from it would probably do wonders for his personal self to begin with. Dude seemed like he was actually doing pretty well for a while when he disappeared for a while and dropped Higan, then and came back with a much more chill attitude and picked back up BSNES. I mean, he has a work and living situation that some would dream for, he has shit going on for him.
This isn't Byuu's first episode though. Some people just can't handle the 24/7 communication loop that is the internet, the signal to noise is just too much to process and leads down to bad emotional places, and thats totally fine if you're one of those people but you have to be honest with yourself on it and either disconnect when possible and/or get help.

As best I can tell, I have RSD as a result of ADHD, particularly bad.

the over diagnosis of ADHD has been a disaster. not only does it introduce hard drugs to usually a very young persons system. it also encourages people to seek medical attention for things that could be solved by diet, exercise, etc. it also creates people like this who love the attention it gives them so they bring it up whenever they do something bad and blame all of their shitty behavior on it instead of taking responsibility.
