As sad and horrendous as it is when someone ends their own life, we must recognize that it is their illness, and ultimately their decision. People get bullied, online and off, people have horrible childhoods, people suffer intolerable abuse. Most don't choose suicide as the solution. Those who do need interventions with their mental health. They need to remove themselves from the arena that is exacerbating their internal turmoil. They need to seek help. It is not cold or heartless to wonder why someone who is experiencing distress online wouldn't remove themselves from the situation. Blaming others for one's mental illness does not do those who suffer from mental illness any favours. It deflects from the fact that people are scared to ask for help, or that there are not enough avenues in our society for them to reach out to, or that it is unaffordable or unattainable. I do not always agree with the comments on Kiwi Farms, but in the current atmosphere of being "triggered" (whatever that means), of reinforcing peoples' victimhoods, it is a much needed touch of reality. Reality is sometimes ugly, sometimes tough, sometimes beautiful. Each person has to find the spot in their life that allows them to deal with reality. Maintaining the stance when you are most weak - when you are a victim - does not help you. Learning to gain personal power over your victimhood, to develop resilience and to understand that all one needs is a love of self is key. May this poor soul RIP, and may others who are suffering find comfort in mitigating their own demons.
