just a reminder to everyone that can be arsed to even read what the anon "friend" posted, he specifically says that they had met in person in akihabara. it is pretty ridiculous to think that they couldn't have called the police while the call was happening.

"I last saw Near on June 9. We had sushi in Akihabara, and then sat down for a cup of coffee. I was a bit busy that day, but I was looking forward to inviting them over to hang out again soon."

I'm calling bullshit to be perfectly honest. I can't imagine anyone calling themselves a friend that knew him in person would write a letter like this basically saying "whelp, he's dead, no need to investigate further"
I will be legitimately amazed if this guy's actually dead. You mean to tell me instead of going to the guy's apartment and saying "Hey, don't kill yourself" he just listened on the phone for 85 minutes and figured "Welp, my friend's dead. And it was definitely a dead thread on an internet forum that did it."

That depends on where you're from and the age. If you live in Eastern Europe and have a tech job, you're probably only messed up in the head in the socialising department at the worst. I have a Polish friend who is studying CS and IIRC has a bachelors in science, and she is quite a shy and not too much of a social person. And a little bit paranoid at times. But she's otherwise normal, a very nice person and an actual woman with big tiddies. But in Wokefornia of other woke 1st world regions, it's a different story. If you are a Pytard troon, you're gonna get a job from diversity hire alone, regardless of your actual skills. That's the younger ones, of course. older techies are also generally normal, with Jon Burton, the guy from Coding Secrets, even having a family IIRC. And of course, I am pretty sure that Rainbow Arts and Factor 5 devs, or other veterans coming from the Amiga demoscene aren't furry troons. Nor is John Carmack.
Terry Davis was rather well adjusted, too.

I know everyone effectively agrees this fella ain't dead, but I do want to highlight that the above two excerpts from the anonymous word doc do not read like someone is talking about another person. It's just speculative, but the first sentence of the first excerpt seems to flit between the first and third person.

Are you gonna seriously tell me, this was a person who you knew in real life. Met up with in person, and who was confident enough to share their fucking medical information with you, but you didn't know their full name because of their OpSec. As if you're in a fucking spy thriller?!

The hard exterior was just a facade... Sure doesn't sound like some edgyboi describing themselves.

Also, earlier they reference a news article about the body being found - but they don't actually link said news article. That would be an easy way to provide confirmation.

Of course they would need a body, but how can Near write his own eulogy if he's already dead?

John Carmack is mentally fucked up (read his twitter long enough and you'll see), and your Polish friend probably is too. Computer people being weirdo deviants isn't new - it's a proud tradition stretching all the way back to Alan Turing. Hell, Xerox and IBM were both troon-friendly as far back as the 1980s.

There is no distinction. If you work in tech, you're fucked up. This has always been the case. The only difference is how adept you are at mitigating the effects and/or hiding it.
