It's bizarre that anyone is expecting otherwise. How often do you hear about random uneventful suicides on the news anywhere, let alone Japan? Never.

I know Japan's suicide rate is high and all but I wouldnt be shocked if there was some minor reporting on the issue, at least on news local to the area. A 外人 who lived and worked in the area roping is unusual enough to make the news I think.

Either way it seems like he wasn't very sociable and none if his friends seem interested or know enough about him to do a wellness check, so if he did kill himself it'll probably only be noticed when the body starts to stink.
