And that links back to my post afew pages about how we give more of a shit about the cows than their friends do. Josh has expressed disappointment and frustration over being the only person left that gives enough of a shit about Chris to come and deal with him when Barb finally dies. I know the answer is “lol trannies are vengeful schitzo autists” but how do you get so far down the rabbithole that you missread the room so consistently?

So, I will admit ignorance to not reading all 200+ pages of this. But I think the most important question is: "Did Byuu kill himself? How can we find out?" I decided to use my 日本語 skills to do some digging.

I did multiple searches for the combination of terms: 荒川区 (Arakawa-ku, where he reports to live), アメリカ人 (Amerika-jin, American), 自殺 (jisatsu, suicide), and デヴィッド (Deviddo, David). I searched just for results within the past week as well as results from the past 24 hour. I used both Google and Yahoo (which is autistically still popular in Japan). Nothing came up. I also searched www.japantoday.com which translates Japanese news articles into English, usually ones relevant to English-speakers living in Japan. Nothing there either. Whether or not something like this would be reported in local news and how quickly is definitely a question. I may try contacting the Arakawa Police Station but I'll post the info here in case someone else wants to.

There does seem, however, to be a path for us getting a concrete answer, though not until September at the earliest. The State Department has a site where you can see when and how American citizens died overseas from non-natural causes, suicide being one of them. It says it's updated every 6 months and says it was last updated in March 2021, but only allows you to search up to December 2020. By this logic, it may come to be that come September 2021, they'll have everything up to June 2021 on there, but we'll see. Here are the deaths listed for 2020 to see the level of detail they show. If Byuu really did kill himself, we'd see "06-27-2021, Arakawa-ku/Tokyo, Japan Suicide" listed.

I also looked into if we'd be able to get a copy of the death certificate from the Embassy since repatriating remains is one of their services. You do have to provide proof that you're a next of kin (parent, child, sibling) in order to get such documentation, so unless someone can forge those documents, that's another dead end.

Anyways, can't wait to see how this shit turns out.
As far as I am aware Japanese privacy laws and their culture in general typically prevent suicides from being named in their news media except when it’s something like a celebrity or important public person. While Byuu may be of some interest to us I don’t believe he’s anywhere near being relevant enough for the Japanese papers to name some random gaijin weeb.

Regardless, I’m betting he’s alive.

I have no way of knowing how true this may or may not be, but I found some guy on Twitter who mentioned "David Burch" as the guy who committed suicide. Do we know Near's last name?

hector himself
He has tons of videos on the internet. He was part of Team Twiizers who hacked the Wii and FailOverflow who hacked the PS4. He's basically famous in reverse-engineering/security circles. That's why a lot of these respected security people are taking it as fact. He's very respected in the industry.
It's probably how he knows Byuu, because they all party together at these conferences.
ETA: He even has his own Wikipedia Page
