One of the good/bad things that's occurred to me through my presence on this website is the realization that people lie way more than I thought was even possible. People want to feel good in the short term. That's it. Almost everyone has a pitifully weak will and a severe temporal myopia. Threatening their good feelings in the short term will make them fold immediately or angrily lash out. They will build of a fortress of lies to themselves and others in order to preserve a tingly feeling.

People don't believe in free speech, they say they believe in free speech because not saying the words is unpopular, and being unpopular feels bad. But they can't actually believe in free speech because actual free speech means they have to confront speech that makes them feel bad or defend "bad" people from angry mobs which also feels bad or confront with the possibility of not maximizing profits which feels really bad, so they have to change what the words mean to get the good feeling of being moral and avoid the bad feelings that come as a consequence of actually sticking to a principle.

The woke taking advantage of this just makes it worse.
