The issue I have with this is that it implies that people shouldn't be allowed to employ other people to work for them.

As harsh as it sounds, you need some form of capitalist employment if you want to have anything close to a workable economy. The state can't just find jobs for everyone - even North Korea, Cuba and China have accepted that some form of economic liberalisation is necessary. I'm not advocating for unregulated capitalism - in fact, as a traditionalist Catholic and distributist I find it against my values - but a system where the state exploits the workers and creates monopolies is no better than a system where Bezos and Gates exploit the workers and create monopolies.
