Feedback Deep Thoughts

I nominate @Valiant with a free rein to delete posts and threadban at will. @Vitriol or @OtterParty would likely make excellent overlords as well, if willing and available.
Im about to leave on my annual weeks holiday but when i return this would be easy enough, use the same rules as @quatloos.com does-

No ad homniems
No irrelevant bait posts
No reposting of threads already discussed within Xmonths (circumcision, autism etc)

That would clean up the board.

Disabling all the ratings in deep thoughts bar agree and disagree would also discourage baitposting and one liner jokes but that might be a little too serious for us!

That's kind of you @Philosophy Zombie but I think @Valiant or @Vitriol would probably command wider respect.

Deep Thoughts is kind of full of dumb opinions (and I'm sure many would consider my opinions to be among those) but that's OK. It's not a main focus of the board, and it's basically just a piece for sounding off. The biggest danger is that anybody would actually use it as a chief source of information about important events, but that's a danger to each of us as individuals and not something the board authorities need to concern themselves with.

Baitposting is annoying but it might be better served by having a quiet word with the 'offenders' than wielding a banhammer, and the line is always going to be fuzzy anyway.

Whatever's fine with me.
Though I genuinely wonder why I have first choice.

Deep Thoughts used to be a nice place. Back when Nia ran it, we could have actual debates because they're were so few of us. If a Chris thread got out of hand or a news story happened we had a thread in deep thoughts.
Like this one I made from 2 years ago when a Chris thread turned into an "is sex important?" debate between some people.
https://kiwifarms.net/threads/the-importance-of-sex.2140/
Were they're joke responces, yeah, but I feel it was about people actually sharing their ideas with one another in a respectful manner. It wasn't one sided and you weren't ashamed to have a different opinion.

It used to be one of my favorite subforums

The whole honeypot threads and a bazillion new people kinda ruined it.
At this point it's basically a dog with rabies and needs to be put out of it's misery.

I think Deep Thoughts was a nice idea, but it's probably best to shut it down and merge the threads with Off Topic. It's clearly failed as a place for more serious discussion, and that was the only thing that differentiated it from OT in the first place.
Hellblazer as much as I agree with 99.9% of everything you say, I don't agree here. Offtopic is great for threads like "say something nice about the person above you" and stuff like that. But it's a place where you're expected to just be nice and talk about stuff that really doesn't matter that much.

A lot can be gained from a serious discussion about things like religion or politics. And I won't lie. It's not an easy thing to moderate, at all. A lot of forums I've been on ban such discussion outright to avoid the hassle. Debating religion on the internet is the entire reason Poe's Law is a thing.

I think such things are worth talking about, and we can have discussions about it if people are willing to be mature and reasonable. It just requires a lot of moderation, much more so than any of the other offtopic boards. But it can work and it has worked in the past on this forum.

Deep Thoughts is what it is and I'd say you should leave it as it is. There are countless opinions about literally everything in the world, and 99.9% of them are dumb; it's that simple. For better or for worse to censor or delete anything that is perceived as "dumb" is no different than any tumblrites desire to create a trigger free world. I can understand a desire to create a drama-free community, but the only thing that attempting to overcensor does is to create a community that is afraid to have an opinion that differs from the majority as well as creating a community that is immediately hostile towards anything that doesn't fit the "mold" of the forum. This in turn ends up creating a gigantic circlejerk of people literally posting the same exact shit over and over again knowing it's "halal" while ostracizing anyone who attempts to break away from what the majority wants.

One observation I made about this forum is that it's not really welcoming for people to have opposing or offensive opinions or viewpoints. People are constantly discouraged from "offending" anyone, which to me is absolutely ridiculous considering what this forum is mainly about. If flame wars and drama are being created due to people being "offended" than that says more about the community than it does about the forum topics themselves. I'd like to think that people who join a forum like this would be above being offended by crap posted on the internet. It's one thing to get rid of blatant shitposts and bait posts that are simply made to fuel drama and butthurt but it's another thing to start specifically cherrypicking what ideas and beliefs shouldn't even be talked about or mentioned.

Deep Thoughts is a good place for people to get that freedom to speak their mind without being judged for having "extreme" or "different" beliefs while at the same time being a place where someone with flat out idiotic beliefs can either end up realizing he either has no place here and leaves on his own or ends up going deeper into his own hole digging his own grave and becoming a topic of interest on this forum. Either way, when you allow users more freedom and encouragement to post what they truly believe, you end up with a much more colorful and thought provoking group of people while at the same time allowing a natural filter to be created that exposes the less worthwhile individuals.

Based on what the Kiwi Farms is all about, the forum can attract a lot of cool and interesting people. I mean, you fuckers banned from the chat, but even still pretty much everyone whom I've seen on here I've thoroughly enjoyed talking and listening to; but at the same time this forum can also naturally attract a fair amount of strange and fucked up individuals and by gearing this forum up to allowing everyone to speak their minds more freely, you'll get more interesting content from good posters while at the same time discovering who the crappy people are and potentially avoiding any future Waifu style shenanigans or dicks being leaked. This ended up being a post more about the entire forum rather than just the Deep Thoughts subforum, but I'll be fucked if I'm not going to post this fucking essay after spending 20 minutes on it.

I'm sorry if this post offended anyone, I love you all.

If you think 99% of other people's opinions are dumb then you are pretty narrow minded. Yes there are dumb people with dumb ideas, but often most people see reason in their beliefs.

This in turn ends up creating a gigantic circlejerk of people literally posting the same exact shit over and over again knowing it's "halal" while ostracizing anyone who attempts to break away from what the majority wants.
We're already a giant circlejerk about certain things, such as lolcows and their treatment but off-topic we have too many opinions different from eachother. I mean there is often someone who disagrees in the Deep Thoughts threads. I feel like you're bringing in a personal vendetta towards this.

I mean, you fuckers banned from the chat
... You're pretty much saying all this because no one agreed with you and you acted like a sperg and you want to soap box it here.
Maybe you should refer to my first quote.

I would say this is the exact opposite of the trend I've noticed here. First of all, people here seem to actually be pretty accepting of different viewpoints. I've seen people who're on both sides of the spectrum have perfectly pleasant conversations, and there's never a sense that having a dissenting opinion will get you chased off. Secondly, I think people tend to be much harsher on those who express offense than the reverse. The general opinion when someone advances the argument that hey, maybe we could stand to be a little more polite and circumspect in our statements is fuck off, we're not going to hugbox someone. Even when that request is a perfectly reasonable one. I'm not saying that everyone agrees or that people never get offended, but as far as internet communities goes, this one actually has far less of those issues than the average one. I don't know, maybe I've just been unlucky in the general internet communities I've seen. Or maybe Valiant has a point about your motivations.

You're taking that statement a little too literally. There will always be people that think something is good and others that think something is dumb, it's called an opinion and anyone alive has them and anyone should have the right to at the very least express their opinions. Of course people have a reason for their beliefs, however I'm more inclined to think that most ideas out there wouldn't be good ones. There's a reason why society has a ruling class and law enforcement in some form, because most people can't be trusted to always make the most rational and moral decisions.

That was more a general observation I had. Having a personal vendetta would imply that I am personally bothered by the state of the forum or that I have any vested interest in the forum other than being a casual member. I'm just offering my two cents on how I see things. I'm not forcing my feelings or shoving them down anyone's throat. People may see what I think as completely off base and I may come off as a sperg for thinking it, but at the end of the day if everyone here decides I'm an idiot then it's their right to judge me for that going forward. At the end of the day this forum will go whatever way it does and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm just a random person on here, I'm no one special and my opinion shouldn't matter anymore or any less than anyone elses on here who isn't a donator; to be honest I'm surprised anyone even read past the first paragraph; I just figured seeing that this is the feedback forum I'd share my thoughts. Also, the point I was making was that the Deep Thoughts thread is one of the best outlets on this forum for debate and opinions, not the latter.

I'm guessing you're referring about the chat ban? It's such a retarded subject and I don't really feel like even bringing it up, but if I was seriously bothered by being banned from the chat you'd think I'd make a bigger fuss about it, don't you? Honestly, I don't even care and other than a small joking reference to it, I didn't even want to bring attention to it since the whole subject is a pointless drama topic that no one cares about including myself. As a matter of fact I was more amused by the reasoning behind it than anything. I was given a joke reason for being banned, but I'm pretty sure the actual reason I was banned was due to a combination of spamming and the first impression I made on this board which is totally fine with me.

You do raise good points and if you see things that way; that is completely fine. At one point I was running my own forum and the drama was much worse on there since the average user demographic was roughly angsty 13-17 years olds. So based on my perspective and experience this is certainly a place that is much more civil, mature and contained which I think is awesome and necessary considering the fact that this a board based on many aspects of chan culture. There is certainly still a good chunk of thoughtful conversation going around in this forum and as autistic as this may sound, engaging and reading arguments from opposing viewpoints is something that can be really fun.

I know there are a lot of people here who have been on here longer than I have, but just based on what I notice lurking around this place and comparing some of the older threads here from years ago even in the old forum to the ones now I'm noticing a trend where dissension or differing viewpoints are instantly discouraged, and I just feel like going forward that may become more of a trend. It's not a knock or a criticism of this place, it's just an objectionable observation and depending on who you ask this could be a good thing, a bad thing or something that isn't even true.

Lol @Valiant thinking Kirby has some kind of vendetta with being banned from chat here. Seriously he only mentions it once because he's sperging out and trying to make a point; suddenly @Valiant talks like Kirby has some kind of vendetta against the farms for banning him from chat.

Edit: misworded something so I made a simple word change. Sorry @Valiant.

Lol @ people thinking Kirby has some kind of vendetta with being banned from chat here, and you yell at me for being a tryhard.

Yep. I have no vendetta at all. I've been handling the chat ban as professionally as I could since it happened. As a matter of fact I set up an international petition against the Kiwi Farms, and I'm sure it will cause a huge PR issue once the news outlets catch on to this injustice. It already has 8 signatures, and once I get 99,992 more and no less, I will mail the petition to the Kiwi Farms headquarters and begin the nationwide #freekirby campaign where people on social media will paint themselves pink and suck a tomato into their mouth; it will be the cool trendy thing that all the hip kids will do and the celebrities will also do it to stay relevant. You see, I'm no autismal sperglord; I know how to handle these kinds of things the proper way and I'm sure it won't be long until I'm engaging in productive dialogue with my fellow members by spamming the word Nigger with them endlessly in the chat.

This is excatly the kind of post that deep thoughts needs rid of- it adds nothing to discussion and openly mocks a user for an opinion. If you're wanting civil discourse posts like that are an absolute cancer.
