Wuhan Coronavirus: Megathread - Got too big

I notice articles that I'm too lazy to link and archive right now saying how many cases of Covid are showing up at the Tokyo olympics.

Funny how Covid spreads there, but not at any of the riots.
I agree, could we said there's something fishy?

Meanwhile, some wonder if masks are about to become permanent? I hope not for God's sake!

Are Masks About to Become Permanent?

By Brian C.Joondeph, MD

Much of the world’s media is spewing nothing but gloom and doom over the Chinese coronavirus, that the worst is yet to come. NBC newsreader Lester Holt recently interviewed CDC Director Rochelle Walensky. When Holt asked her, “Is this becoming a worst-case scenario?” she replied, “Unfortunately no I think things can still get worse.” Is that true?
Most Americans have had at least one COVID-19 vaccine, specifically 56 percent receiving at one dose with partial immunity and 48 percent fully vaccinated. Of the most vulnerable over age 65 population, 79 percent have been fully and 89 percent at least partially vaccinated.
The CDC “estimates about 35% of all Americans have been infected with COVID-19 over the last year.” Even with some overlap between those previously infected and those vaccinated, 80 to 90 percent of Americans have either natural or vaccination immunity to the Chinese coronavirus.
What ever happened to the basic concept of herd immunity? The media refuses to discuss it as suddenly this basic concept of immunology is now QAnon or white supremacist conspiracy theory. The Mayo Clinic explains,
Herd immunity occurs when a large portion of a community (the herd) becomes immune to a disease, making the spread of disease from person to person unlikely. As a result, the whole community becomes protected -- not just those who are immune.
There are two main paths to herd immunity for COVID-19 -- infection and vaccines.
Note infection and vaccines. Why are we told that vaccination is the only path to herd immunity? Are we there yet? It depends on who you ask and when. As the New York Times notes,
Scientists initially estimated that 60 to 70 percent of the population needed to acquire resistance to the coronavirus to banish it. Now Dr. Anthony Fauci and others are quietly shifting that number upward.
Moving goalposts is Fauci’s new hobby. The goalposts are sifting again for masks. Why are we going backwards with mask mandates by masking up again despite most of the country having some degree of immunity?
As reported in the Daily Mail, “Los Angeles orders EVERYONE to wear masks: County demands vaccinated residents to cover their faces indoors as Indian Delta variant spreads across the US.” What starts in California often spreads across the U.S.
If the vaccines work as advertised, why the masks for everyone? The unvaccinated can wear masks if they are at higher risk or concerned about exposure to COVID. But the vaccinated are protected. Do we walk under an umbrella on a clear day because it might rain, and one can never be too careful?
Too bad Lester Holt didn’t ask these types of questions of the CDC director. Or the obvious question of why vaccinated people need to wear masks contrary to her CDC guidelines, “Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing.”
Early in the pandemic, Fauci was anti-mask, saying masks were ineffective at protecting against the Wuhan flu virus. U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams agreed. Fauci then changed his mind, recommending one then two masks.
Now he is saying that, “fully vaccinated Americans should ‘go the extra step’ and wear masks when traveling to parts of the country with low vaccination rates.” Why? It’s the unvaccinated who are at risk, not the vaccinated. Are the vaccinated and immune spreading infection? Where is the science on that? If the vaccines are not protective, then why the push to get everyone vaccinated? How soon until we are told to shelter in place and avoid travel as has become the norm again in some parts of Australia?
Why the new indoor mask mandate in LA? Almost 70 percent of LA County residents have had at least one vaccine dose. As of six months ago, a third of LA Country residents have had COVID, that number undoubtedly higher now. So, who’s left to infect? Even with overlap between infected and vaccinated, most everyone in LA should have at least some immunity by now. Yet they are back to masks.

Btw, the Foo Fighters wanted a vaccinated only concert who got cancelled because one member got corona-chan, talk about karma biting back.
The Foo Fighters had to postpone a concert that was scheduled for last Saturday in LA after a positive Covid19 case was confirmed within the band’s fully vaccinated organization.

The band had only recently begun touring again, playing large venues strictly for the fully vaccinated, and requiring that concert attendees show proof of vaccination upon entry to their shows.

In an ironic twist of fate, a breakthrough case was discovered among one of the Foo crew, all of which have reportedly received either the single-dose J&J shot or two or the other options. The positive test forced the band to postpone the LA show.

Foo Fighters posted news of the cancellation on Twitter without specifying who in the organization had contracted the virus.:

If a requirement to riot was getting tested I am very sure you would find alot of cases. The amount of testing at Tokyo is mind boggling. Not a sniff of any testing during the Tour de France, though it was taking place, but maybe the french just wanted to keep the results quiet so the show could go on. Wouldn't be surprised if a number of the dnf's were covid positives and not from injury/olympic schedule and there was a blanket stfu.
I can see corruption happening in Tokyo with leading medal contenders being removed due to covid, or certainly the challengers to the big names across the higher profile sports. Sadly; the IOC and other governing bodies are so bloody corrupt that it could make this olympics ridiculous.

I don't understand the meme of calling the mask a face diaper. After all, unlike worthless cloth masks, diapers are proven effective at preventing the spread of human bodily fluids and are recommended for young children.
I think it's because the people who believe in them, talk verbal diarrhoea. It's a piece of cloth covering an orifice to prevent shit from flying all over the place.
Here are some maths directly taken from the BBC covid news to help us understand what Vallance meant, yesterday.

But the news is even better than that. The figures are skewed by the fact the people who are most likely to be unvaccinated are the younger age groups - the ones least likely to end up in hospital.
Ignoring the rest of the mental gymnastics, why are the youth in hospital? Last year it was only the elderly, vulnerable and those with underlying health conditions. Why are the youth now facing the brunt of it?

Also, those in hospital with 'covid', is it covid, or is jab side effects?
If you factor that in the vaccines look to be well above 90% effective at keeping people out of hospital – bang in line with what all the research suggests."
Not a vaccine then.

That’s because for every 60 unvaccinated people, there are about 440 vaccinated adults in the population.

So that means the numbers of vaccinated people in hospital are at least 10 times lower than they would be if the vaccines did not work at all.
Ok, I'm not smart with numbers but how does this make sense? Are we just assuming that 100% of people who don't get vaccine will go to the hospital to arrive at this? What about all the people who didn't get the vax, who aren't in the hospital? They don't mean anything? What is this fucking logic?

To prove the efficacy of the vaccines; there are so many factors that need to be included and they are not. This is either through ignorance, or on purpose. Just like there are only 12 anti-vaxxers running the disinformation maybe there are only 12 people who can see the flaws in the math.

Yeah...right! .

Just like real staff who work at the same hospitals as all these supposed 'our ICU is full and the patients pull the vent tubes out to swear at us', are asking themselves what the fuck the media is going on about. No it isn't and no they don't.

eta:

Just found this

NHS hospital CEOs are being barred from making any comments to media about potential risks from unlocking yesterday.
Three trust chief executives have told HSJ that NHS England has refused to let them discuss the lifting of covid restrictions on 19 July in the national media.
All three had planned to warn the move risks putting potentially unsustainable pressure on the NHS by increasing the number of covid positive patients. The service is already struggling with record emergency care demand, high staff absence due to clinicians who have come into close contact with a covid positive person having to isolate, and the effort to restore elective activity.
NHSE has been authorising local, and some national, media appearances by senior trust executives and clinicians to stress the importance of vaccination, mask wearing and social distancing after 19 July — and how a failure to do these things would end up putting further pressure on the service (see NHS England response below).
The sensitivity appears to be around trust chief executives commenting on the government’s decision to remove legal restrictions covering the wearing of masks, social distancing and the size of groups able to gather indoors from Monday. The media requests to the three CEOs were made in the last few days and all came from leading national media organisations.
One of the chief executives told HSJ they had been told to refuse the request as “the NHS’ message was already clear”.
They added: “Apparently it is not for trust chief executives to say that we are worried about the unlocking and changes in guidance decided by politicians.”

So one head says this and one head says that.....

After a week of a really shitty flu/infection (39c temp, sweats and shivers, coughing etc) and being pestered to go get tested, turns out I have the Wu Flu. Most overrated "lethal" disease ever. Literally like a serious cold. Maybe it's this new variant being less lethal, but I've been worse off before.

Does make me even more irate that THIS is what the world shut down and gave our freedoms up for.

So my hospital’s leadership is looking into mandatory vaccinations and is going to ask the governor. Lets hope DeSantis stays based about this because only 56% of the hospital is vaccinated despite aggressive messaging. People will leave and we already have 100 open full time nursing positions.

I personally might go to another less pozzed (faith based org) hospital that offered me the same amount of money if this happens. I need to pray more about it but the more I see and learn the less likely getting the shot is for me. I’ve posted a few months ago about getting it if it was a requirement but now im really not so sure.

It doesn't because they're liars.

If the numbers of unvaccinated requiring hospitalization was 10 times higher this would be reflected in the case fatality rates as the only explanation would be viral symptoms being more virulent (on average) in the non jabbed. The NHS own numbers show the CFR for the unvaccinated at 0.1%, the same as those who've had one jab and significantly less than the fully vaxed, 0.6%.

What we're expected to believe is that one segment of the population is 10 times more likely to become seriously unwell, requiring a hospital stay, compared to another segment. But despite this they are 6 times LESS likely to die. Now how the fuck does that make any sense?

My take? They are swabbing all non vaxed people who are coming through their emergency departments for Covid and marking them down as Covid cases, whatever the reason for their hospital visits. In comparison they're only swabbing the vaccinated if they have actual viral Covid symptoms and counting them as breakthrough cases. The CDC is running the same nonsense in the US.

If the vaccines were offering any kind of protective immunity we would be seeing this show up in the case numbers, clearly we're not. A vaccine that doesn't stop transmission or infection is not going to be doing much to prevent illness. TLDR the vaccines aren't working, and all this is a cope.

When I picked it up from work it was nothing. I coughed like three times, had little to no fever, fatigue that was minor enough it might have been psychosomatic, and my wife certainly got it from me but was asymptomatic. I get this shit can be dangerous if you're a fat elderly diabetic, but shutting down the entire world to protect those people was fucking retarded once we understood the risk was nowhere near evenly distributed

What really gets me is the amount of people my age who went from complaining about not being able to make a decent living or buy a house, to instantly turning into tugboat hikikomori the second the opportunity presented itself, with no apparent concern about what that meant for them or society at large after this little staycation ends. Now the economy has gone nuts from all the disruption and money printing, most new wealth created in the last year has trickled up at an alarming rate, millions are deep in the hole with back rent or mortgage they can't possibly pay off when the moratorium ends, inflation is the worst in decades, employment figures will likely never recover to 2019 levels since a lot of businesses either spent the last year trimming a lot of fat to survive or ate shit and simply aren't coming back. They went from complaining about being sabotaged by boomers to sabotaging themselves far worse, all so they could spend a year clearing their streaming backlog

If you're a Euro at least now you can get a green cert for recovering without getting the shot.

It is crap like this - the stuff you write - that simply makes it even more remarkable that man - thanks to the shoulders of the few, ever made it out of the dark ages. Seriously.

Any opinions you have are based entirely off the work of others whom you chose to twist using your own "logic".

All your "sound" reasoning is again selected to be simply a counter to science or what is revealed through the work of others - information you don't understand, and are incapable of, so you decide to "argue against it".

You are exactly the type of person who hundreds of years ago was the type to be a jury member on a witch trial. You think it is this, you think it is that purely based on what? Your ability to sequence a genome? Your gifted use of DNA sequencing? Your brilliant in-depth knowledge of antibiotics and medicine? Your tiresome work on treatments you don't even understand?

You are a fucking idiot. Loaded with opinions that someone could care for, if you knew even what it was you had an opinion about.

And yet, the "big people" at the top - which is really just another name for people who are rational and smart, will still provide to you an environment loaded with technology, medicine and a pretty decent social structure - not that you'd know that because you haven't studied history, know nothing of any real science and your intellect could and is surpassed by education handed out some millennia ago to engineers in Rome.

You knowing the Earth is Round is entirely due to efforts of others - and yet - if we could transport you back in time to the 10th century and ask you to prove the Earth was flat, you'd need a spaceship rather than Euclidean geometry which doesn't require the use of "see it to believe it" to prove it. Ignorance.

You are full of ignorance. But instead you wear it like a badge of honor when it is indeed most shameful.

You are the fucking circus.
How does the boot taste?

As someone that follows way too much bike racing, the DNFs were a little higher than usual, but only slightly, and there were a lot of crashes Week 1.

I think it's more likely that they tested the riders pre-race, and then from there it was just isolating them and "don't ask; don't tell" from that point on.

I mean, COVID if nothing else hits the lungs. I don't think too many people are riding through COVID, but these are the best of the best, and I'm sure they have plenty of "help" too.

How far'd you make it? I started laughing at "people at the top are rational and smart". Couldn't finish.
I actually made it through the whole thing and was about to dissect it point-by-point, but then decided I was too lazy and didn't care enough, so I just called him a bootlicker instead.
