Considered, sure. Like e-mailing Cyber Gadget's PR department to politely ask about the matter. Or their ex-husband. I feel that affecting the real world should be the last resort of an investigation. Schrödinger got mentioned a few times before and it's pretty applicable to investigative work.

I know some people here assume everything is fake, everyone is autistic and nothing ever happens, but you can't dismiss the fact that @Wayne Beckett contributed a new name that nobody knew about and is connectable to byuu/Near, introduced a new persona to the discussion, posted an actual authentic picture with 2+ bystanders of an urn that seems to be for sale (in Japan) with the 'correct' name order, and built a story that hasn't been proven to be false yet.

And so I reread what they actually said one more time. Aside from erroneously claiming to have written earlier about their work relationship with byuu/Near in their second post, there is no yet-proven false or fake information.

Which lead me to these two posts:

You can focus on, and attack Wayne for continuing posting after a supposed last message and mic drop, but did any of you pick up on the fact that their replies are just four minutes apart here, actually replying to the post by @torvalds that was posted in the same time frame as they would have been typing?

This indicates (to me) that Wayne posted the first message, then read and replied to the post by @torvalds in a rush. You need to be a fucking godlike 200 IQ LARPer to spontaneously invoke a call to authority as a different persona based on supposedly memorized age/career information from your subject. I don't believe there's a way a person in his 20's or 30's invokes such an argument so naturally about a different person in the span of a minute. That's Rain Man-tier undercover agent shit.

Maybe y'all never worked for bosses that are Wayne-alike, but they can have a sort of street fighter, self-made man narcissism or ego that matches closely to their style of posting and just using their real name. You can call me gullible any day of the week, but I'm not dismissing @Wayne Beckett's veracity just yet.

Edit: just another hypothesis on the cheapness of the urn. What about this scenario:
  1. be foreigner in Tokyo, Japan without friends or family
  2. sudoku
  3. police kick in door or whatever
  4. police only find employee badge, contact employer
  5. because no friends or family, the state and/or municipality provide a barebones cremation with a barebones urn
  6. ship urn to employer as no family info
Or some variation of this. I mean, how reasonable is it for coworkers or an employer to buy a casket or an urn for an employee? That idea sounds pretty retarded, I'd never consider paying for a coworkers urn, too personal. So maybe the 'Japan office' received a cheap state-provided urn and everyone there is as surprised as we are when unpacking it from a wooden box. I have no knowledge of Japanese culture or municipalities. But things can be different if you're a foreigner without contacts and the 'someone is dead' problem still needs to be solved.
This is heaping load. He replied to 4 different users, his posts were all righteous indignation with zero substance, and he was quicker to suggest giving up pix of the fucking corpse than any sort of official documentation. To suggest any of this is too high effort to consider plausible is a bit retarded, especially considering we all saw the coordinated spergery directed at this site. I think this post does give us a good example of how many mental hopes you have to jump through just to conclude that he wasn't just talking shit

A 'Wayne Beckett' (not implying this is @Wayne Beckett ) is a person that actually exists, has a public media record and is tied to an existing Hong Kong company mentioned on their LinkedIn. Their company seems closely related to things byuu/Near was working on. So there is a chance that @Wayne Beckett is a partially truthful outsider.
Fascinating. So assuming this all isn't a massive coincidence (Wayne Beckett isn't an entirely uncommon combination of names after all) or a cosplayer, but really is someone who had a connection with byuu in the past, that means:
It's not a coincidence at all. The emulator community hates Beckett, and it's probably someone from the scene (4chan Emugen or some shit) trying to get KFers to fuck with him. Wayne Beckett isn't someone who is unknown to the same kind of people who knew who Byuu was before all this shit blew up.

There's no discovery happening here. Everyone knows what Hyperkin and Datapower are. SaveWizard is old news, the site (a PS4 save editor) has been linked with Hyperkin since like 2018.
People in the thread were speculating that Byuu might be working for Wayne/Hyperkin long before "Wayne Beckett" showed up here to LARP.

The urn is obviously real, but the people reflected in it are probably a red herring. When you order cheap shit from China that is personalized, they take a picture before they send it to make sure it is correct. That is probably what we are looking at.

When someone is cremated outside their home country, they do not ship you home in a fragile ceramic urn. They put you in a plastic bag inside a shoebox and the next of kin buys the urn when the ashes make it to them.

The fact we haven't gotten an official notice of death along with the US embassy having heard nothing about the death of a US national makes me think this was a giant OP for attention.

We would have gotten something concrete by now. It's a play for attention and/or an attempt to "start over."

And as with all these things, all it means is he will either have to live in hiding for the rest of his life or eventually sheepishly resurface and admit it was all a load of shit.

has anyone reached out to David's ex husband?
What do you mean "ex" husband? These two divorced? Also, I suggested the same thing hundreds of pages ago and I wasn't met with much enthusiasm. But it might be necessary, of course by keeping it civil, if we want to get out of this circle jerk. MIGHT being the key word, tho. I guess it's like pozloading my neghole with a stick or something. But then again, that was supposed to be the job of the journalists that regurgitated the "trust me bro" evidence just like that. Maybe we could ask some journalists to do their job, but would that also be pozloading my neghole?

I'd say it's better to take a hands-off approach unless you're personally connected to any of these people. If the guy actually is dead, you're just upsetting them. If he's alive, the longer this nonsense goes on, the funnier it will be when it turns out to be bullshit.

I still think the best way to smoke him out is to raise money in his name. I'm also aware that it's not a very popular idea around here.

No, the easiest way to smoke him out is to start making suggestions that his video game hoard get donated to a museum somewhere. That will start bringing up awkward questions about things he wouldn't want talked about.

I thought I read in the thread they are divorced. I guess let me do my own research and make sure. I did contact Patrick but I was very gentle and respectful, I promise. I haven't heard anything back from him. I just felt it to be for the best instead of taking the word of some "trust me guise" internet trolls.

You make a valid point. This is what I found on if an American Citizen dies overseas.

So they could have had the body cremated in Japan, Here is the thing how many days inbetween Byuu dying and Wayne Beckett producing a picture of an Urn? I would think it would day a few days for the body to be cremated and once it is, it would directly be shipped to the US. Unless Byuu kept his body in Japan but that makes no sense.

Put a good name behind it, like the "Fuck KiwiFarms Foundation for Trans Rights and Videogame Preservation" or some bullshit that is shorter and easier to say

Why would a trans person have images about the biological differences between genders in their profile?
"These subtle, average biological differences aren't 100% predictive, that means I can have a penis and a scrotum and still be a girl!"

No. I have never seen a death take this long to be confirmed online. Especially for someone who is apparently so popular according to twitter.
Someone on slashdot called him a "pillar of the nerd community," like he was Stallman or Torvalds. Well, not Stallman since he's been cancelled, and they're working on Torvalds, but you know what I mean. I never heard of the guy, and I doubt 99% of the twits posting about him did, either.

Dude when I heard we were getting ddosed and Twitter was blowing up i for a moment thought I somehow missed chris chan JR. Then I saw he had 13 pages, and was a nobody on here that 99% of users did not know about until now.

Someone reminded me that Byuu worked on a decidedly OK translation for one of the Dragon Quest games, and once I saw his little fire kanji logo I remembered that he was behind Higen / bsnes.

But a pillar of the nerd community? Bullshit. If they didn't think he was trans (remember, he told Null that he was now a nonpracticing nonbinary / trying to get away from troondom) they wouldn't give two squirts of piss about him.

This is categorically untrue. He is mentioned in the Byuu OP (not by name), but his name is well known in the hacking/homebrew/emu scene, much like when people ITT were trying to dox @Marcan42 (an infamous security researcher with a wikipedia page).
The First Post in Byuu's Thread said:
Byuu came up with a clever way of making money from this, along with actually helping put his non-SNES emulator cores in use somewhere: License his emulator commercially to anyone wanting to rerelease a game on Steam or build an emulator console, and reaching out to companies caught in SNES9x or GPL licensing issues. This led to both Hyperkin and another console builder from Asia licensing Higan as a way to avoid license tangles with Retroarch.

Some people involved with Retroarch, like TwinApex weren’t too thrilled about this and ended up calling Byun parasites profiting off Retroarch’s problems in leaked chatlogs, chatlogs that also said that Byuu didn’t write a good portion of BSNES and that called Byuu a narcissist and hard to work with as well. Not long afterwards Byuu found this and had a meltdown of his own revolving around these chat leaks.

This is the first I'm hearing of this, can I please get some context? Seems interesting

I'm not somebody that follows Emulation closely, so don't take my words as the gospel. There are probably articles about all this stuff if you look around. Here is a GitHub issue with EmuDevs arguing about it, where Beckett is named (Archive). Here is another (Archive). This stuff has been going on for ages. FYI, that Twin-Aphex/SquarePusher who is pitching fit in those GitHub issues also sperged about Byuu.

If not articles, there will be lots of forum posts and 4chan archives discussing this topic. All of these people involved have been in this scene in the range of, give or take, 20 years. None of the names are new. Hopefully one of the old heads that were here earlier will chime in and give better details than I can, but it seems like most of them stopped watching the thread.

Byuu licensed his work for a retro console. I guess they didn't use it because it required more resources than what was available in the cheap ARM SOC's being used in the consoles. Word is that they ended up just stealing code (i.e., using it without license) and a bunch of emu devs were pissed.

At the time, emulation wasn't ubiquitous like it is today, and none of these guys were making any money from their 1000's of hours of work. They were jealous as fuck and pissed right off at anyone that made money from it. Some freaked out under the pretense that the work is like charity or some shit. It wasn't like today, where you have emulator teams making $10,000 $20,000!!! per month on Patreon.

A lot of this business is a grey area and even illegal in some countries. That's why the companies operate under so many names (CyberFreak, Hyperkin, DataPower) to insulate them from legal liability. Same thing with the developers, they all use pseudonyms. For instance, that SaveWizard site is probably breaking US law. They are able to sign PS4 save files, and that means that they have circumvented the encryption and are selling it as a service. That's probably not legal in the US.
