First I want to tip my fedora to the staff for setting this subforum up and engaging in it.

I think when we had sigs, banned users had the reason for their ban on it. It might be a good idea to start that practice again and put the reason on their profile info or something, and maybe let people bring up banned profiles by search. If there's a bloodletting thread that pertains to it then put a link to that on there instead. That way there aren't false rumors or people in chat asking over and over why so and so was banned. New people still ask why Peppy and J-Crow were banned.

It can't be done anymore without a proper XenForo extension. User profiles are obfuscated when they are banned and there is no way to turn that off. Signatures are hard disabled and ban reasons are inaccessible in the post templates so I can't substitute them there either. The only option is to use the content declaration (i.e. the red message above some posts) or to write it myself.

What about a 'hall of shame' thread? You can then list the reason and even a link to the halal thread if they have one.
But wouldn't people come to that thread trying to defend their friends that got banned. It would just turn into a mess of people whiteknighting, just look at the waifu thread.

There used to be a thread called "Why was [RANDOM SPERG] banned", but the admins locked it. Perhaps some sort of mega-FAQ...

we have it in supporters. it's only $20 to join

I second the need for a Hall of Shame / How not to be a JERK on Kiwi Farms

That thread was too long and had too many people posting in it to ever hope to find information on the member you were looking for anyway. It was a good idea though but it would have to be either a master post and then discussion or just a master post

With the hall of shame thread on the forum I saw, it was a locked thread that mods would temporarily unlock to add to. Descriptions were only a couple of sentances long, so I would imagine a single master post would be a neater arraignment.

Discussion on bans (like the long explanation on Waifu's ban - the HoS description can be simplified to something like 'rampant catfisher') can just be a separate thread.

Just make a sticky thread on why they were banned and then lock it. People will start sperging even if you list the reason: "LOL wow they were banned for that geez what a faggot do you think Connor licks his own smegma?!"

As interesting as it would be to see why people are banned, if a user didn't muck up badly enough to leave behind a thread (either about them or with their offense all over it) there's usually not much real reason to care why a person was banned. A thread might not be necessary, and if it is implemented it definitely shouldn't bother to document every asshole who gets banned.

Seriously ? WOw. It's if someone just disappeared and did nothing big that reasons for ban become interesting.

Halal threads for all banned users or users who are inactive more than a month

I'll take care of it.
I just need mod powers to access obscured profiles and mod reports.

Just ban anybody from posting in the thread. It'd be a single post which is edited by a mod whenever someone new is added to it.

I like this, and we wouldn't even need to use thread bans either.

If this banned user list concept is ever at all implemented, it should be done in a way that doesn't allow comments or additional replies.

The easiest way I see is to create that "Hall of Shame" thread as a locked one. Staff can still post in locked threads so it could easily be updated without having to open it back up.
Just like @Mulligan said, leaving it open would lead to similar arguments that the Waifu thread had. Which is the exact reason it was locked after only a day.

Idea is basically having it be a public announcement without debates over the bans themselves.
