The thing about these people is that to them, leftism is an identity/cultural signifier, not an ideology. I don't think so. While part of the reason Kevin is a socialist or a communist or whatever he calls himself is because it's cool and trendy, you're ignoring the other half of the equation. Namely, Ron Paul's 2012 presidential campaign wasn't based on the principle of "free shit for everyone until the country goes bankrupt." Maybe Kevin would have been a bit more of a civil libertarian (police reform, no PATRIOT Act, etc.) to hop on the cool new political bandwagon much like he does today, but his true political loyalties lie with whoever promises to best finance his lazy, consoomerist lifestyle.
