The FTMs who actually complete the full transition actually seem fairly normal and well adjusted. They just seem to go on living their lives instead of screeching about transphobia on the internet.
The ones who think they can be a he/him just by cutting their hair short are the insane ones it seems.
I've found that too. For lesbians who troon out it tends to be from a place of not feeling like they 'fit in' with what's expected of a woman because they are sexually attracted to the same sex (forgoing the traditional goals such as marriage, having children) and because there interests and goals are probably more in line with what would be expected of a man, at least for the most part. And I think it tends to be a similar story with gay men who transition. Even in a modern society where gay marriage and adoption is legal, it's still not considered quite the same by a lot of people, and still controversial in certain circles. These kinds of people, it's usually sad that they felt the need to surgically alter their bodies but generally other than that they're usually quite normal. As was said before they just want to work a job and drink with the boys, and feel comfortable while doing so and for whatever reason they came to the conclusion that they're unable to do that as their biological gender.
The main difference with MtF and FtM is it is easier for females to be clocked as male once they start hormones. Even if you're 5 foot with a slight figure once the voice drops and facial hair appears to the casual viewer you appear male, most people would probably assume they're just a small guy, maybe with some sort of disorder that stunted his growth. For men, no amount of plastic surgery, hormones and voice coaching lessons can ever really make a mans body look the same as a womans, even those transwomen like Blair White and Contrapoints who are often held up as passing really well look like effeminate men when they're not filming themselves from the perfect angles and lighting that tone down their features.
They/thems tend to be annoying attention seekers who grew up online, in circles where being seen as special and quirky matters more than anything. As time goes on just dying your hair and listening to Marilyn Manson doesn't cut it anymore so they end up going a step further. Plus in modern libleft circles where how oppressed you are is a form of social currency it's an easier way to climb up the stack without actually having to commit to making themselves into a lifelong medical patient. A lot of them will grow out of it and look back on that phase the same way I look back on myself as an edgy goth in high school.
Straight and bi women who trans themselves usually got their mind broken by internet MLM fanfic and also maybe don't identify with the traditional role of women being passive in a relationship, so although they are attracted to men they'd rather go for gay men who by definition won't have that kind of dynamic, as well as just having a fetish for gay men in general. FtM also tend to be pretty annoying but less likely to sexually assault you in a changing room, maybe.
Straight and bi MtF almost 100% of the time have a pretty warped view of women, viewing them purely as sex objects and wanting to become said sex object, by any means necessary. That's why you see these middle aged relatively normal looking guys transition an start dressing like a strung out aging hooker from the darkest alleys of Hamburgs red light district rather than like a normal woman of that age would.
In short, it is my firm belief that the sudden rise of the 'trans movement' we're stuck with today is a direct result of our incredibly porn warped world where people live just to chase the next coom, coupled with the terminally online circles of people who build safe spaces where they just feed into one anothers delusions without pausing for a moment to think critically about it. Somehow in most western countries this has climb it's way into actual legislation so it's pretty much impossible to say "hey wait a minute, something about this is wrong" without risking unemployment and even criminal investigation.
