Why are people mean to nice people?

are assholes more liked
Yes.

There are Mr. Rogers-style exceptions, but in general your non-sociopathic average person has people they hate, and gets angry when the cafe screws up their latte order, and chimps out when some jackass cuts them off on a highway. So they can relate to assholes, because they can relate to human emotions like rage and envy etc. (Much more readily than they can relate to the suspicious weirdo nice guys that seem to just take all of the assraping that life wants to throw at them with a never-drooping grin.)

Human nature, biggest dick swinger tries to grab it all, kinda backfiring on the traditional dick swingers, could explain all the sudden would-be she-men, arseholes still wanting to have the club.

Nice is rather intangible and oftentimes more self-perceived than other-perceived. One expression or remark meant to be pleasant might be wrongly interpreted by another.
Or perhaps the other person has had a long day, experienced a recent loss - any heavy weight on a shoulder can bias a person to perceive a nicety as a potential sleight.

What I'm trying to say is

Fuck you OP :)

People easily confuse kindness with weakness. If you are having trouble with non-assholes not returning the kindness to you, you need to act a bit bratty from time to time, so that they don't take your kindness for granted.

People hate unconfident nice people, they're seen as doormats and asskissers. Confident, outgoing nice people are respected since they give off a more positive vibe as well as having some self-respect which makes their nicest all the more meaningful.
It's basically the difference between genuine positivity and the toxic kind. One will try to build you up, the other will knock you down but try to make it seem otherwise.
