This probably ain't the right place for this discussion...but anyway I think environment and culture plays a large part in why people are trans or not. Shit always goes back to that "nature/nurture" thing but the answer is usually "both, kinda". I don't see why this would be different. Thing is people drag this understanding to extremes. Like, of course gender dysphoria is "in your head", but that doesn't make it less intense for the person who's head it is. Most trans people are just trying to live in a way that makes them happy, their reasons don't really matter to anybody but them anyway. Then on the flip side the LGBTQABCDEFG.. rights movement latched on to that "born this way" thing because it made the otherwise very complex subject of sexuality and gender easily understandable to America's wine moms. Thing is now people get hyper-defensive at the very notion that people's identity can be anything other then biologically hardcoded by evolution, even if that does play a part (and who knows)

Chris though? We know too much. We've seen too much. This isn't somebody with just some personal issues about their own body trying to live a life that is mentally healthier for them, this is a person who's truly lost all touch with reality and it's hard to tell where his own sense of self begins and where the bullshit trolls hammered into his head begins. Chris has problems that go way, way, beyond dysphoria. I think people need to stop obsessing so much on the trans aspect of this weirdo. That's the least shocking thing going on here.
