I don't think there's much to be skeptical about at this point. Null's theory from earlier today that Chris was incriminating himself to avoid outing a non-issue seems to have gone out the window. Chris has since admitted it to a few people. At this point unless there's a pretty widespread conspiracy and Chris learned how to ad-lib, he did it.

courts can only decide shit about what they're aware of. as far as they were aware, chris was a self-sufficient adult, who did not need a guardian, and they have not heard from Barb since she apparently developed dementia.

Not true. Chris has a history of run ins with the law. And especially after the house burned down somebody should have looked at the conditions they were living in and realized this was not going to end well. It's not like there wasn't an investigation into that. Chris has had to go to court mandated psychiatric counseling before I am pretty sure. Somebody, somewhere, decided to check the box instead of do their job.
