The real moral of the story is that sometimes what these people do is far beyond buffoonish or point-and-laugh material. Sometimes there were warning signs left and right. I had very little interest in the Chris Chan stuff, but Josh had so much confidence that this wouldn't backfire that I didn't pay it much mind. As long as Chris didn't do anything absolutely horrific. It's easy for me to say because I never had any connection and had nothing but disdain for Chris. Even so, no one made Josh commit as much as he did to the cause. The good news is, along the way this forum came to represent a lot more than just the entire spectrum of lolcows. It's turned out to be one of the only places where you can still talk about almost anything without getting shutdown. I appreciate that enormously.
One cow exploding isn't a big deal around here but when you make a sacred cow out of one of them, even going so far as to effectively make them the mascot of the entire community, when that bovine blows up, you're in for a long clean up.
It's probably too soon to get into. But when you go through the trouble to celebrate his connection to the site with bullion, I really don't see the point in saying we're already passed it. We're all still in shock and I don't want to scratch up anyone's newly minted shekels. I'm just bracing for what's around the corner.
I'm not worried so much for Josh, just hate to see another forum get taken down. I am glad to see that Josh is being as transparent as possible about this.
