Do I know people who are trans and use their pronouns? Yes, because they have earned my respect by being decent people who just want to pay their bills and do their taxes. They are not monsters who murder and rape, they are people, and thus I will call them what they wish. But they know that as soon as they do something beyond horrible and fucked, they stop being a human being to me and I owe them nothing.
This assumes calling them by their preferred pronouns is a good thing to do.
Forgot if it was this thread, but someone had a good comparison: If your friend has aspirations on being a teacher and was complete shit at it, would being a good friend entail lying to them and telling them they are brilliant?
That’s not being a good friend. That’s just you being uncomfortable to bring up important truths to your friend because you care more about the peace. You don’t care about your friend. And similarly, you’re willing to refuse your friend basic truths because you’re afraid.
Don’t misunderstand, this doesn’t mean being an ass and telling them they are hopeless and have no chance in being a teacher, it just means there’s a different way to go about dealing with this rather than ignoring your friends obliviousness to reality and enabling it.
For a trans friends, perhaps the best thing is telling them the basic truth - that a man will never become a woman and visa versa. That the best way to handle gender dysphoria may not be cutting off their dicks and filling themselves with hormones. That wearing women’s clothing and acting in the most stereotypical way a woman does will in no way help their underlying problem.
And we know this because if it did help, 41% wouldn’t be a thing. Trans people would NOT get this upset about the most mundane things like pronouns. Most people who are true victims in society want the end goal of just being left alone. But they don’t want this - they want ALL of society to cater to them without realizing the majority do not agree with the idea that men can become women by the magic of words. They’re in this forever echo chamber and think anyone who goes outside it MUST be a hateful human being.
The people who enable these lies are insane. Utterly and disgustingly insane. People that want society to sacrifice truth and are HELLBENT on making it happen no matter the circumstance.
