You Know What Grinds My Gears? - Things that personally piss you off

Your joke failing =/= someone has no sense of humor.

Which reminds me to add another annoyance; people who think anything is automatically hilarious because they said it was a joke.
That's not what I'm talking about at all.

An example of an unfunny joke: "Elon Musk wants to go to the Moon so he can steal the cheese!"

It fails: "That's stupid. You're stupid."

Interlocutor lacks a sense of humor: "Actually, IDIOT, the moon isn't made of cheese!"

This dude violently grabbed my hand and yelled out how chinks like me carry lots of money and should give out to black people more.
That's when you needed to shout, "Stop the Asian hate!"

More seriously, that sucks that you got physically accosted in that manner.

Years ago when I was between jobs, someone came up to me to ask for money. I told him that I was out of work and I could use some money myself. He couldn't turn and walk away fast enough after that.

The fucking semicolon tattoo trend
This seems to be part of a larger trend of people doing cryptic things with the general public expected to know/remember what they all mean. Besides the semicolon tattoo thing, I've recently seen someone share a video on social media where people making some sort of hand gesture are trying to convey they're victims of human trafficking or need help for whatever reason - I don't even remember any more. How many people are going to know that without being told, and how many people will remember in the spur of the moment if and when it happens?

The whole concept of customer service and the so-called service industry pisses me off.
Even when I spent a summer as a food server in a cafeteria many years ago, there were those people with a sense of entitlement that would have lunch there and treat myself and coworkers as if we were somehow beneath them in terms of status. I still recall one particular lady giving me her order in a tone that suggested, "I'm better than you because you're stuck behind that counter and I'm not."

It's only become worse over time. Now the sense of entitlement has grown to the point where it seems more like the rule than the exception that people treat service employees worse than dirt and go whining to a manager over what they perceive as any sort of slight. It doesn't help when management won't back up its employees and takes "The customer is always right" to the extreme in that customers are incapable of doing any wrong even when they do something that's truly unacceptable. Just look at some of the stories over in the general forum's "Horrors of...." threads where managers back up shitty customers instead of their employees that did the right thing.

Salty about when this black guy approached me while I was downtown with friends and asked me for change. Felt generous so I gave him the $2 I had on me (don't normally carry cash). This dude violently grabbed my hand and yelled out how chinks like me carry lots of money and should give out to black people more. Bitch I gave you change, you should be lucky I gave you any at all. I'm broke too, just wanted to be nice.
should've called the cops on him and gotten him george floyded

Yep. That's why I'm not entirely sympathetic to the majority of people suffering economically or being humiliated by various recent events in the past years. Most of them are loudmouth, self-righteous, entitled normie assholes who, to use an overused quote, get what they fucking deserve. They should be fucking grateful they don't live somewhere like North Korea, China, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Belarus, etc. I highly doubt you could have the same advantages and comfort in any of those shitholes. They take their relatively cozy lives in America for granted.

An even bigger irony is when a lot of these same customers also work in customer service, but they learn the wrong lessons. Just because you suffered doesn't make it okay for you to turn around act just like the people who hurt you. That can go for anything in life. It really makes me seethe when I encounter this with said assholes who conveniently pull the victim card when anyone stands up to them or they're in the wrong. It's even worse when they throw identity politics or their beliefs into the mix. Like you being black, Christian, a woman, a Muslim, or whatever doesn't instantaneously make you a victim, the good guy, or whatever. It does not, nor should it, justify your shitty behavior.

Sorry yet again for the MATI sperg-out. I've been doing a lot of customer serivce lately and it fucking sucks. And yes, I'm looking for a new job because it's been wearing my nerves thin.

And I have also contributed to the Horrors of Retail thread. I need to revisit it.

I had a bit of rant about litterers a while ago. Recently there was a ton of rain across the UK. Turns out the litter caused blockages in the drains (what a surprise!), leading to a lot of flooding in places that normally wouldn't flood, and a lot of both houses and businesses suffered quite a bit of water damage. Just carry that empty water bottle with you until you get to a bin, or throw it in one of the hundreds of council bins in everyone's driveway, rather than throwing it in the street. It makes the place look a mess and your littering can legitimately cause property damage.

Totally agree here :agree: . Too many people act like nobody should enjoy themselves if they're having a bad day or mad/upset about something. It's as if they don't care about the adage, "Don't take your frustrations out on everyone else."

Just the other day, my morning started off on the wrong foot. instead of letting myself be embittered, I did my best to shake it off and try to have a decent rest of the morning because sour moods really do bring everything else down and it's not a good feeling.

Hand in hand with this, too many people try to bring identity politics into scenarios where it isn't even a factor. A straight person and a gay person reasonably disagree on something? Expect the straight person to be called homophobic even if it's not true or relevant. Two different races argue over something? Someone's getting labeled racist even if race isn't the issue.

The Golden Rule really does seem dead in that these prople don't care about behavior at all. They think they can get away with treating others shitty and still demand -- and even expect -- those same people to be nice to them in return no matter what.

Hang in there, fam. :feels:

That happens here, too. Halfway down my street is a drain by the curb. I can't tell you how many times it's been plugged with trash/debris or fallen leaves in the Autumn months.

Even though the city reminds residents to keep these drains and sewer grates clear, few people seem to care enough to do it. The neighbors whose house it outside the aforementioned drain do nothing that I've ever seen to keep it clear; it's only when other neighbors on the street see the grating is covered over by something that they go ahead and do their best to clear it again.

That ties into another piss-off: neighbors that have no desire to be neighborly. I realize not everyone is a social butterfly and renters might not plan to stay long enough to establish long-term relationships with the rest of the neighborhood. However, there's no excuse for not maintaining one's property or giving neighbors a cold shoulder when all they want to do is say "Hello," or "Welcome to the neighborhood."

There was a time when the human misery I saw every day at my job made me feel intensely guilty and I therefore became very generous. I would typically give at least a $5 bill to whoever was lucky enough to choose me to panhandle. One night I got panhandled as I was leaving the gas station and handed the guy $5. He took it and actually asked me if he could have more. I just stood there for a moment, speechless that someone would actually be so ungrateful. I don't carry cash anymore.

You were lucky you weren’t stabbed. Black people are a pest and I hope you learned from this.
But I wonder, have you lived under a rock the last year? If I were Asian, I would be extra careful around blacks.

People who complain about x thing in society, and morally call out others to acknowledge it while purely acknowledging it for the sake of acknowledgement. Does not change anything.

IE, "Wow you didn't say anything about BLM!" even though posting a black square on Instagram won't stop a group of neo-nazis from lynching a black person, it's virtue signaling towards others as your own form of social credit in society "Wow look how good of a person I am, I posted a black square to show you that I'm a good person and not racist asshole!" when my default assumption towards people is that they wouldn't just want to murder somebody because of their race.

Frankly hate virtual signaling in every way from both left wingers, and right wingers.

This also seems to be part of a larger trend where people make high-visibility posts that virtue signal (such as the all-black social media avatar) or posts that are more cryptic. As an example of the latter, female friends some years back made what appeared to be random posts mentioning a color and nothing else (e.g. "Purple", or "Blue and white striped"). Only after one was prodded by friends did she admit it was some sort of breast cancer awareness thing where women were being encouraged to post nothing more than what color their bra was. That seemed stupid because there was no way to know what was being talked about and those posts prompted a number of responses from people shitposting a random color or asking the OP if anything was wrong. It would have been better to have posts that said something such as "In order to support breast cancer awareness, my bra is ... (whatever color)." Hand in hand with your point, these posts were still nothing more than cute slacktivism that did nothing to help those whose lives have been impacted by breast cancer.

The latter part of your post shows that people more and more are believing the binary fallacy. One that doesn't actively support a cause is obviously against it or vice versa. Itseems like college composition courses may no longer be teaching about fallacies like they once did -- presumably in the name of wokeness and social justice. *sigh*

Frankly hate virtual signaling in every way from both left wingers, and right wingers.
Call it humblebragging, chest-thumping, counting coup, or whatever, but people seem to think that the louder they virtue signal, the better persons they are (spoiler: they aren't).

There are five trends I'm seeing constantly in the media and IRL that's annoying me, and some of it has to do with the latest chris drama. First off is, the feelings of the perpetrator is more important than the lives of the victims. So many people care more about the misgendering of chris than what he did is astonishing. It's not just chris though, it's many rapists and murderers that get similar treatment.

Second is people being disingenuous. Talk to someone about genetics and they'll leave out important information. "The y chromosome is just a switch", press them further and it becomes "Well, there are fertility factors on it necessary for reproduction". Or "we've been eating GMO's all along" then when caught they quickly mutter "Well actually, it is true the difference is the use of a virus and it involves using genetic code that will never be found in that species or similar species. even can be the insertion of a dna sequence not found in the current phylum. " You don't say.

Third is cognitive dissonance. Whether it's the whole stance change on the border situation of separating kids from the adult or the people calling you racists for wearing a mask in the beginning of the pandemic to these same people upset people are not wearing masks. The mental gymnastics is astounding.

Fourth is it's a conspiracy unless the media says it's true. Not going to go in a long list, but one that bothers me is all the talk of what China was doing during the start of the pandemic and the media goes "it's a conspiracy theory". Then you have yahoo news mention there's a rumor a few days later. Finally, they admit China is cremating bodies of those testing positive for CORONA virus or are physically sealing people into their homes. It's like that one CNN reporter talking about how only the news media should have access to important documents during the whole wikileaks shitshow.

Five is manipulation of the media. Not just black holing negative news of their allies, but any positive news for their enemies. Like how no one said anything positive about the forum when snake thing and wolf were brought to justice, but many say negative things when someone faked their suicide. To add to this, when it is revealed to be fake. None of them will write a new article stating they were wrong. They will either do a quick edit to still demonize or just blackhole it.

So at my job we have to wash dishes and the like. We have a 3 compartment sink and a specific process we're supposed to follow: scrape, soak, scrub, rinse, sanitize.

Most of my coworkers skip the first step, and they don't put too much effort into scrubbing. I don't mind too much, we have a lot of shit to do. If it doesn't come off from soaking or a moderate scrub, fine. We soak them in sanitizer after, so they're still clean, they're just sorta stained. The worst of it is stuff that the customers won't see and the food never touches anyway, so who cares.

Today, however, I swear one coworker just threw the fucking pieces in the sanitizer and never even touched any soap or sponges. I had to change gloves after handling the "clean" pieces because I got grease all over me.

And the worst part? Three separate people, including the assistant manager, warned me that this same coworker keeps a fucking notebook to write down and report anybody who is less than perfect at their job. This person has yet to be a problem with me, but the sheer hypocrisy of it had me livid.

My inattentive father and my constantly angry and friendless brother. Not gonna powerlevel past that.
As for things that piss me off, I'd say RNG/gacha bullshit. And unironic tumblr-/deviantart-tier chuunibyou from 20-pluses that should know better.

This pisses me off too. I wish society would hold shitty people accountable and punish them instead of pitying them.

This also pisses me off. Especially when it turns out they don't really believe in the virtues they're signalling. I've had one too many disillusioning encounters with people like this. In public, they seem like such wholesome, likeable people. In private, they admit it was all for show. When you try to talk about these things with them, they're dimissive, they laugh, and throw out a "Whatever." for good measure. That's been my experience. It sucks when people you think you can respect and look up to are actually total fucking hypocrites. I know this is commonplace and whatnot, but it still makes my blood boil.

Each episode is just him solving solving every case flawlessly while all the professionals pout like children because he is far more competent than they are.

Musical numbers in anything. Literally anything. I don't mean music overpowering everything else for a good scene or even those cute little albums some Nipponese media has where they get the VAs to sing, I mean characters just bursting out into song or having a dedicated number just to do it, especially if it sounds like a theater bit. Can't even articulate why it bothers me, didn't have some powerlevel experience with theater performance either.
Smallest most autistic thing that gets under my skin.
