Exactly, and this is why I don’t get current online mainstream feminism’s embrace of troonery. If it was coming from a normal man it’d be all ‘Ermagerd, toxic masculinity! Gaslighting! Misogyny! Reeee!’, yet that same man can just put on a spinny skirt, call himself Willow, and not only get away with it but he can ramp it up threefold and female ‘allies’ will pander to his every whim, even though he’s obviously a total mentalist and the last sort of person they should want in their spaces. The number of them sperging out about misgendering Chris-chan while being mealy-mouthed about his abominable criminal behaviour just shows how fucked up it all is.
The only thing I can really put my finger on is something that currently pollutes progressivism generally, which is competitive public empathy. Social media encourages performative halo polishing ‘Look! Look at what a good person I am. I can ignore all these red flags because I’m kindness personified, which makes me far better than YOU, you piece is shit.’ And it’s so fucking shallow because at the same time they’ll have a very set hierarchy of the deserving and undeserving based on whoever they’ve been told is currently riding high in the progressive stack, like it’s the fucking Billboard charts.
