All the talk of the RNC banning Trump from running right now is naive IMO. Whether the RINOs and neocon middle managers like him or not he's the face of the party, he has built up a following no Republican has seen since Reagan and has enough sway to get certain primary candidates in over the line (most of the time). Banning him might make the party brass feel better, but it effectively hands the Dems 2024 on a silver platter just due to voter depression and many on-the-fence red voters refusing to turn out given their man blatantly having been done in dirty.
With that said, however, what happens for 2024 and the nominee choice comes down to the midterms. Republicans take back the Senate and/or House on the back of a batch of Trump loyalists (as most Republican candidates will be seeking Trump's support)? Trump probably runs again and the RNC cannot stop him. Dems keep control of Congress? The presidential nomination is up in the air given the likely narrative of Trumpian politics now officially being dead.
In short, if Trump wants the nomination it's his right now, and that will remain the case until at least the midterms.
