I haven't watched a Contrapoints video in years but I honestly feel sorry for him. Contra's slowly sinking ship signals the end of any appeal to the general public that leftist essay-type content had. His aim with YouTube in the first place was to 'radicalize' the right, and although he may have brainwashed some people, the majority of them either fell off with the Buck Angel thing, or are falling off because of stagnation and stale content. Not to get powerlevel-y but a handful of my friends who used to watch Contra (and BreadTube in general) no longer do so because its not even about politics or philosophy anymore. All BreadTubers now are just LARPing as academics, trying to justify plugging their Patreon by spitting out the same tired arguments about idpol and trans rights whilst name-dropping philosophers to appeal to intellectualism.

Anyway, wonder what'll happen next in Nick's arc - if he keeps posting once every 6 months, inevitably his Patreon and subs will slip, how will he afford all that plastic surgery he so desperately needs to prevent a 41% incident?

When people say "opium" they generally mean opioids - substances with effects similiar to opium. Opioids as a group include both heroin and fentanyl.

i mostly think it’s more of a damage control type phrasing on his part. contra is smart enough to know that saying “i have an opiate problem” = dirty junkie; whereas “i have an opium problem” = romantic victorian tragic dark mother etc.

all i’m saying is that the “opium” phrasing originated from Contra, and is super weird in the US at least. we shouldn’t buy into their attempt to severely minimize what is probably either a pressed fent pills or straight up dope problem.

If you're a boujie rich kid who likes to dress a bit alternatively, and have one of those fancy drug dealers who provide a range of options, you can absolutely get your hands on opium and smoke it out of an opium pipe you found in an expensive antique shop. I once saw someone doing it while wearing a bespoke silk smoking jacket and one of those funny little hats with the tassel on.

That's how it starts anyway, a bit of theatricality and "ohohoho aren't I debauched". They all graduate to heroin eventually. I wouldn't be shocked if Contra had actually started that way, but I don't believe Contra still smokes opium (or not just opium).

my only exposure to “opium” was from super spun out hippies who enjoyed putting some in a blunt or hookah the way you would with hash, so you’re right, they are out there.

i think you’re probably right that Contra started off trying “opium” after his FFS and then spiraled into buying pressies or stamps off the street.

I love King Critical. Seriously, the videos are just Nick speaking at the camera. I have made personal videos as well as worked in professional production. With a giant crew helping or even a few assistants, a shoot like this can be finished in days. So, like someone said earlier in the thread, the video may be titled (Envy) or possibly she has a different title in mind by now if its changed. My theory is that when she is wearing black she is playing Abigail (or a subtle reference to her) so that's why when she has the Green contacts in she is GREEN with ENVY (towards Natalie)

Unless Nat just threw in a lot of powerful imagery to give hints to the video, I don't know.
This is Foreshadowing, as it is a teaser. Lots of political elements. Maybe she's going to compare the persecution of Trans Women to the French Revolution - somehow?
There might be more meaning within the symbolism of each image's origin and context, and the way she chose to edit it.
