To be fair, Chris going to jail would be a mercy at this point, since then he'd have a roof over his head and people making all the important decisions for him.
Him walking means he's going to be thrown headlong into a mess of shit with his unstable support system in shambles. His car is legally undrivable since a ween stole the plates (and that's if it's still at the hotel lot and not being held somewhere, which will just add problems in getting it back), there isn't a chance in hell he's going to be legally allowed to live with Barb ever again because that's just asking for the entire legal system to be embroiled in a real shitshow that isn't worth letting Chris walk (because he'll just fuck his mother again should he get a stiffie), and his financial situation is completely ruined as he'll lose access to Barb's accounts which now likely were a critical support for his habitual splurging on useless shit.
Homeless, vehicle less, and largely penniless without a clue as to how to function in the real world or to obtain these things, his life forever marked like Cain because he's a sex offender, and at the end of the day he still has to grapple with the fact MLP G5 is happening.
One way or another, Chris is going to feel the repercussions of his actions and have his sheltered little life torn away from him, all due to his own idiocy.
