Diseased #Comicsgate - The Culture Wars Hit The Funny Books!

Your asking them to forgo expanding their customer base to make a statement. For Richard C. Meyer. Who, despite creating Comicsgate, comic books, and ink; refuses to even call himself CG.

You and the Kangs made clear they would be banished.
Is it really so hard to believe that a fanbase that initially coalesced around an identity of being the oppressed underdog would react negatively to their mascots cosying up to their bullies?

You're really attached to the idea that @FROG is the driver behind the anti-kickstarter 'policy' rather than someone sufficiently in touch with his fan base to have a good idea of how they'd react to using that platform. Even if you want to cast the CG big brass in a bad light, would it not be possible that their flaw was in cultivating a rabid fanbase, rather than in wanting to micromanage new talent to their detriment?

You and the Kangs made clear they would be banished. Is it any surprise that your people follow your lead on that?

If Simple Zach doesn't have to fight on hills for 'da cause', why do they?
That is a great question for creators who want to annoy the segment of the customer base that still loves Zack to ask themselves.

I personally don't care what any of them do, but I will warn them that the audience has been deeply engrossed in the story of ComicsGate for 4 years now, and most of them haven't forgotten a damn thing.

Stop asking for my permission to make dumb mistakes on behalf of smaller creators. My answer is "go ahead".

I know it looks like I lead my audience, but it just isn't true. I do so well by listening to them.

This surprises me. What exactly are people buying at this point?

Now I know Froggy-Poo has me on block, but let's give it up for another choice slice of brahma bullshit.

Can you imagine the luck of having a customer base that is clamoring for $50+ superfrog books that take over a year to make? I mean what a lovely audience! You know, on a totally unrelated note, I once saw a documentary about Hinduism years back and there was this part where the villagers were gathered around a sacred cow with plastic cups in hand and they were taking turns putting them up to its butt as it was churning out the brown stuff. Amazing!!!

CG faithful have been getting their opinions from Frog for four years now.

WarCampaign were just loveable scamps until they were evil fucking monsters. All that took was a nudge from the Caesar. The vast majority of CG get their opinions from one source. Ethan is the CNN of CG and he made it clear that they'd be mad if Clint used KickStarter.

And he's not wrong.

I personally don't care what any of them do, but I will warn them that the audience has been deeply engrossed in the story of ComicsGate for 4 years now, and most of them haven't forgotten a damn thing.
Who tells them that story?

I know it looks like I lead my audience, but it just isn't true.
I'm sure your audience believes that too. At least if that's what you tell them.

I don't know how Nasser got under his skin so bad but it was enough to get an unshowered TenNapel to interrupt an annual family retreat on the surf to go yell some autist on the internet. Nasser was surprisingly game in the stream though, I'd venture to guess that he was able to puncture the heavy barriers of ego Doug has built up between his concept of his inner self versus the reality of his actions that allow him to schmooze in a moral cesspit like Hollywood, or his latest friend circle for that matter, while maintaining a self image as a virtuous Christian. It's borderline schizophrenic and I love it.
I think I got under his skin so bad because I was just asking normal questions and not accepting his dodges. Like when he admitted to doing zero planning with Elliot for Doomkicker. Like, they didn't even do the bare minimum.

CG faithful have been getting their opinions from Frog for four years now.
This is what I needed to be able to figure out whether you're a good faith critic of the CG sphere or whether you're an angry person with a hard-on against EVS. Clearly, you're the latter.

You view the thousands of people involved in CG as brain-dead robots, who came into being as blank slates when EVS started his youtube channel and exist only insofar as they are listening to his channel. You don't recognize the reality that they had opinions before his channel, they receive information from sources outside his channel, and they're capable of listening to information they receive from his channel and deciding whether or not to agree with it. You see a bunch of NPCs and have to work backwards from their opinions to somehow put @FROG at the center of it all. That's not how this works.

@FROG's channel took off because a bunch of disgruntled comic fans had been forming their own negative opinions of the comic industry for years. He became popular because he voiced things they had already been thinking, and it was nice to hear someone they agreed with. There are opinions that form the basis of Comicsgate that EVS is incapable of changing because they existed before his channel. If he said that Marvel and DC respected their fans, his channel would tank because he would be denying the reality behind the experiences that fans had lived through that made his current take on the industry appealing in the first place. If he started saying that it was important to prioritize woke politics in books to appeal to a wider audience, he'd lose his audience for the same reason.

EVS certainly can *influence* people, but he's not the only factor at play here and your sophomoric focus on him as an all-powerful Oz means you're not going to be able to grasp the whole situation. Why did EVS change his opinion on WarCampaign? Because of things they did. Some people in his audience probably didn't follow the WC arc closely and simply believed what he told them, but the 'CG faithful' as you call them wouldn't have had just @FROG's take on the situation. They would have witnessed it real time. They would have been developing their own opinions alongside of EVS. And they had every bit as much capacity as EVS does to decide on their own that WC crossed some lines that they just couldn't support. Some of his audience probably still does support WC. Some of them never did, and decided that they could simultaneously like EVS and dislike WC. Most of them probably never really cared because they were there to listen to Uncle Ethan complain about Star Wars and buy comics about space frogs.

The question is whether the situation with Kickstarter falls into the core of the comicsgate identity, or whether it's something that EVS actually does have influence over. If his audience views the Kickstarter situation as a continuation of their negative experiences with the comic's industry, then the chances that EVS could switch directions on KS without the audience viewing that as a betrayal aren't really that great. The CG audience seems to value a certain degree of gate-keeping in their community. They've had their hobby infiltrated and turned against them before, and so they're sensitive to the thought of outsiders who don't actually respect them coming into their community and asking for their money without really 'being on their side.' An honest critic could debate the degree to which this is a good and healthy thing, but it is a reality. The CG audience is made up of people who perceive themselves as having been burned before, and who don't want to be burned again. If they are going to look at a newcomer putting their works up on Kickstarter as a carpet-bagger who's just trying to get their money but who is likely to turn against them as soon as it becomes convenient to do so, then they're not going to want to support them - and that has next to nothing to do with EVS and his opinions on the matter. If he takes the wrong side on a core CG issue, then his audience can punish him.

Personally, I think that it's important for CG not to fall into the same trap the civil right's movement did - where they identify so much with the struggle that they refight battles they've already won over and over, and end up being the force that keeps themselves from moving beyond the fight and into success. If KS really has 'been defeated' and changed to the point that CG artists would be safe using them as a platform, then it'd be good to be able to reframe that as a victory. However, changing the mindset toward them isn't going to be an on-off switch sort of thing. I think having mid-tier comics test the waters and prove that the change is genuine is going to be necessary before the core CG audience will be willing to accept it and change their stance on the issue.

All sketchy as fuck.

Where the Diamond numbers are exact and correct, the numbers which appear for DC sit at the middle of ranges, as a margin of uncertainty surrounds each DC estimate; the numbers are rounded to the nearest thousand. They appear for purposes of getting a general idea of what DC has in circulation. Further, remember that DC's information comes from a dataset of initial orders, so reorders and second printings would not be detected.

The Diamond numbers, by the by, are sales to retailers. Note JJM further states...

Diamond's rankings and estimates are based on our analysis of charts relased by the company, but we have made two changes to them for the purposes of this chart in order to harmonize them with our DC material. First, the "returnability penalty" which Diamond applies has been removed. Diamond cuts 10% from the sales of all returnable titles; we have restored those copies. They are in circulation, but note that some of those copies may not ultimately remain there. We have left the asterisks by comics which are returnable in the chart below.

Further...

Rankings in these charts should also be expected to differ — often significantly — from the sales-to-consumers charts available at other outlets.

So, the good news is JJM has stopped publicly posting his over/under numbers. However, these numbers still kindof suck in terms of market share. Note, for example, that Venom is ten fucking dollars! Even assuming just a quarter of the estimated 282,000 sold to customers, their impact on revenue will be greater due to the greater price point. So your overall revenue can remain constant and not dip despite cuts to both retailers and titles.

Moving over to the interwebs.

I was gone because I have a real life and shit. As such I missed a ton of stuff. Probably the biggest thing I noticed was the Passion of Doug Tennaple. which I have written up my impression here.

Doug Tennaple, for some odd reason, appeared on a Nassar stream with a @VIkkiVerse, Dean, @TheCosmicWarrior , and a certain @FROG

The stream starts with a light tone. Dean and Nassar lament not being closer before Vikki and Doug join. Doug relates he's on a family vacation. He tone deafly relates how awful ComicCon being gone is. He name drops Mike Miller, Mignola, and Billy Tucci.

Nassar, social deficient that he is, inartfully moves straight to business. Doug is present to answer for his willingness to appear on a fan stream and open and honestly. Doug admitted to liking Liam Grey and missing him. This is awful in Pharisee Nassar's opinion as Liam has accused him of being a pedo, among other things. To be fair to Doug, I miss Liam too and would happily choose him over Nassar as Liam is far more entertaining to laugh at.

The Worm Savior of Trump shit immediately denies he knows anything. He is but an innocent waif. A lone voice in the desert of YT calling for audits and lawsuits. The Worm one assures Pharisee Nassar that he personally knows he is not a pedo. Sadducee Dean interjects that Liam is so frothingly retarded that anyone who is around him knows he thinks Nassar is a pedo. Sadducee Vikki interjects that Liam struck Mike's channel and is generally the worst of the worst.

This continues for some time. Pharisee Nassar, realizing that Doug's association with Liam isn't enough than rails that Doug associates with War Campaign! Worm Savior replies that the young Pharisee should grow up and that he sometimes has talked to Ro. The horror. Truly! Anyone who has talked to Ro or WC at any point should be forced to repent! Cough!

The stream continues with Frog Satan appearing at the 25 minute mark. The amphibious wretch is unable to miss a chance to lob stones at his e-enemies. He relates how much Doug hurt his feelings. The stream at this point degenerates to blood sport. Sadducee Jon Del Aroz comes on to cry about War Campaign calling him a white nationalist because he's tied to Vox Day. Vox Day, by the way, posts things like 'securing the existence of the white race and white children.'

Frog Satan forces thru, calling the great Worm everything except a pedo. The Worm, like his hero Mike Pence, takes Frog Satan's tongue lashing in stride until the Evil OneTM attacks his Christianity and tries to invoke the blessed name of Jesus Christ. The Worm, following Jesus' example calls Frog Satan a tard and tells him to eat him!

The Evil OneTM, properly rebuked, slithers back to the chat where reluctant Apostle Mike Miller has taken up position. After seeing Apostle Miller's presence, Pharisee Nassar calls him to testify. Apostle Mike declines, rightly pointing out he has other infinitely better things to do. Failing to obtain someone to make the three on one pillorying look good; the young Pharisee turns his attention to rehashing that the Worm gives bad advice. The Great Worm more or less quotes Ben Kenobi. If the advice was so bad, why keep coming back for it?

Frog Satan is not content with heckling from the chat and pops back in. The Evil OneTM pops in to continue to relitigate events years old. Frog Satan reveals his true feelings that homophobia is on the same level as racism and 'not cool.' Time Stamp 1:35:09 for when he and his simps deny he said it. The Worm One rightly points out that SJWs created the word homophobia. But no. Frog Satan is not convinced. He fails to point to what, exactly is the Worm Prophet's views that differ from a normal Christians. Thus by Frog Satan's logic, any Christian that shares the Worm One's views is Homophobic and the same as a racist?

The stream wraps up with the trial of the Worm One. His many 'sins' laying bare. Associating with bad people, all of whom the members on the panel associated with, not helping people out how they wanted to be helped, and being an E-Thot.

Hail CG?

Nice write-up, @jspit2.0. I chuckled while reading this.
As for everyone who participated in this travesty, shame on all of you for something so gay.
Seriously, what is this besides a waste of time?

Will Doomkicker ever come out?
Doomkicker is currently the only project I've backed that has not been fulfilled, though that's mostly because I'm very careful about backing anyone these days and I happened to get lucky by not backing stuff like Shinobi Sasquatch that looked great.

For those not aware, Doomkicker was written by DougT, but that was essentially work-for-hire and the campaign actually belongs to Elliot Fernandez aka Jerkmonger on Youtube, who is solely responsible for fulfillment. I have received a total of 24 email updates:

doomupdates.png
What even is "boomkicker", Google?? Anyway, as you can see the last 2 updates were on May 4, 2021. Just to post the record, here are some highlights:

UPDATE 10: (Feb 2020) This update pushes the fulfillment date back to June, 2020 (lol). This is obviously mid-coof lockdown.
doom10.png

Update 13: (May 28, 2020): No new fulfillment date is given, but it's implied to be at least several more months since he promises monthly updates. Coof and employment is blamed.
doom13.png

UPDATE 16: (December 2, 2020) This is the last substantial update. This is also the update informing us that refunds are no longer possible because he used the profits for family expenses. However, he claims the fulfillment money is still safe.
doom16.png

THE FINAL UPDATE: (May 4 2021) Good news! The book now has a gay generic subtitle to ruin the formerly just fine and not needing a gay subtitle title:
doom24.png

The other most recent updates were just links to unlisted videos of him inking the book on a tablet in complete silence that are less than a minute long.

I know that Elliot is not a very healthy man, and he has come on livestream looking like death warmed over in the desert sun, so I kind of consider this a scam donation at this point.

May I add something?
As somebody who was not too invovled into CG and sometimes tuned into EVS streams, I remember myself watching certain people and thinking "Who is this retard?"
For some reason, each and every one of them has been kicked out of CG.
I remember EVS sucking up to Edwin Boyete, talking about his wisdom and I was like "dude is a total whackjob". Same with Ro. Mike was the butt of jokes and clearly not taking it well, Doug was smug and Micah is too dumb to realize how dumb he is.
Most of the CG schisms is about the trash being taken out.

If anyone is familiar with Frank Gogol, who is apparently a "big deal" in comics, he is being canceled right now. Some marginalized comic book writer accused him of calling her a racial slur at a convention. He says we should listen and believe women, people of color, LGBTQIA+ folks, but denies the accusation. Despite not recalling saying anything other than "hello" to her, he apologies for unknowingly acting inappropriately causing her offense.

Does EVS have any "enemies" that weren't regulars on his show previously? At this point I have to wonder if Renfamous herself might have been a previous guest that I just happened to miss.

So I guess you just missed the months of daily hell that was the neverending flame war between War Campaign and large swathes of people in ComicsGate over Anna’s cover? During which time EVS defended and hailed WC, and even went so far as to shut down streams the moment Malin and Cecil started going after WC on his show? You didn’t notice the roiling, seething anger that existed in CG towards WC before WC even started memeing on Anna’s dead sister, which was the final straw that led to EVS turning on them after large numbers of CGers had already turned on WC months earlier?

If the opinions of people in ComicsGate were wholly controlled by EVS, then there never would’ve been daily flame wars for months between War Campaign and a large number of ComicsGate.

For those not aware, Doomkicker was written by DougT, but that was essentially work-for-hire and the campaign actually belongs to Elliot Fernandez aka Jerkmonger on Youtube, who is solely responsible for fulfillment. I have received a total of 24 email updates:

What even is "boomkicker", Google?? Anyway, as you can see the last 2 updates were on May 4, 2021. Just to post the record, here are some highlights:

UPDATE 10: (Feb 2020) This update pushes the fulfillment date back to June, 2020 (lol). This is obviously mid-coof lockdown.

Update 13: (May 28, 2020): No new fulfillment date is given, but it's implied to be at least several more months since he promises monthly updates. Coof and employment is blamed.

UPDATE 16: (December 2, 2020) This is the last substantial update. This is also the update informing us that refunds are no longer possible because he used the profits for family expenses. However, he claims the fulfillment money is still safe.

THE FINAL UPDATE: (May 4 2021) Good news! The book now has a gay generic subtitle to ruin the formerly just fine and not needing a gay subtitle title:

The other most recent updates were just links to unlisted videos of him inking the book on a tablet in complete silence that are less than a minute long.

I know that Elliot is not a very healthy man, and he has come on livestream looking like death warmed over in the desert sun, so I kind of consider this a scam donation at this point.
"Sovereign" by Andrew Huerta is the one I'm disappointed in. It looked great based on the art teasers and Huerta is definitely a talented guy. But it fulfilled in January 2019. We're approaching Red Rooster territory, if it gets fulfilled at all.
