Imagine being a lawyer and negotiating a plea deal that somehow involves CWC admitting guilt for fucking his demented mother in exchange for a box of LEGO and an Optimus Prime figurine.

I am trying to catch up and hope this wasn’t already alluded to but there WAS a case in the US where a guy made a deal to show where he disposed of a body IF he could get his XBox360 in his cell. Iirc, they were like “sure sure” but before he showed location it came out they were bullshitting him and would never acquiesce such a thing and he never showed location.

If I were working for the state prosecution, I'd evaluate his behavior, make him a ward if that state, let him get a controlled basic job, put him is a facility with other men, give him a chance to live in his fantasy world for the rest of his life. Nah. Greene county is probably too small to have dedicated public defender's so they contract out to lawyers that commonly take cases at that court. The lawyers do it to get in good graces with the judges&&prosecutors. They get paid a set contract amount for it rather than being able to bill hours so it's basically pro bono/volunteer. Since it's the same paycheck either way, it's not necessarily better representation than a public defender because the indigent client is at the very bottom of the priority list while a PD treats their clients more or less equal.

Chris is 100% going to try and push them away unless the lawyer manages to get the mental evaluation they request and prove Chris isn’t capable of making legal decisions for himself. I’m hoping Chris does because if so this trial will be very, very amusing for us, though not for the judge.

Chris has a pretty low chance of getting bail. They look at the defendant's employment status, living situation, finances, and potential flight risk. The idea is that someone with steady employment, a place to live, and strong ties to the community is going to be less likely to flee than someone who is transient. In this case, Chris has no job, no place to live (he will certainly be forbidden to return to 14BC if he hasn't already), and basically no community ties. He's a bad candidate for bail.

Of course, even if he did get bail, he'd have to have some way to pay it. Bail bondsmen take 10% down in cash, which you don't get back, and you can collateralize the rest. But he doesn't have collateral.

I have no idea what the evaluations will show for Chris but if the lawyer is asking right away for them then our new favorite public defender doesn’t feel too good about their new client. Personally, I expect Chris to pass the mental evaluations by a razor thin margin.
