From what I have been told, if he's more law enforcement than bureaucrat, it's entirely possible he at least (if not mom) will serve her up on a platter. Kids of LE are known in prison for their parents refusing to put any money on their books, and a lot won't even accept their phone calls. They tend to be really into "tough love" and won't speak to the offspring until they are out and behaving appropriately. Not all, but many. This is because the kid being a criminal degenerate is considered a career blemish and can actively affect their chances at promotion. It can even lead to certain assignments being off limits or removed from their portfolio. And on a socio-professional level, the coworkers tend to look at you sideways when you can't even keep your own house in order. The sole cure for this is to go full boar "here is the foul beast!" and out them. Even that doesn't work.
